Late check out chances?

We are staying at AKL-KV for one night in March, then moving to Wildness Lodge. We have the Wild Africa Trek booked at 8:45 that morning. Any idea what the chance is for us to get a late check out that day? We will be at the Africa Trek until 11:45, but since we have to be at the park early to check in.. I wasn’t sure. I really wanted the 10:15 trek, but it is sold out already. The park opens at 9, which puts Early entry at 8:30, so we’ll already be missing our Early Entry for that day (unless they move up park opening due to Spring Break). Is there any chance at all they would let us check out at 1pm? Or is that just never going to happen? We are not staying DVC.

It never hurts to ask but be prepared to check out on time. A lot will depend on how badly they need your room for the next occupant. FWIW, I have never been granted a late checkout even when staying on a cash reservation.

I was thinking that would be the case. I’ll keep trying for the 10:15 slot for the Trek.

So I have been going to WDW for almost 3 decades. On occasion, I have asked for late check out. Denied each time. About 2 years ago, I asked again because my flight was later and I was speaking to the front desk manager about it. I told him my experience over the years of never getting late check out and he just flat out said that they deny pretty much everyone. Housekeeping does not want to get behind and so they usually say no.

Very good odds AK park hours expand fwiw, Disney keeps leaking extended hours out slowly.

Very bad odds of getting that late of a checkout. Disney was stingy with late check-outs before COVID and now reports of them are very few and far between. Plan on checking out (ie dropping your bags at Bell Services) on the way to the park that morning.

Yeah I was thinking that was the case. We’re only staying one night there, so it should be pretty easy to do.

I nearly always have a late afternoon flight out, so I always ask. I’ve been granted it a few times over the years (ths last time was in 2019, and I recall being referred directly to housekeeping to ask), but since covid began (3 trips), I’ve been told they don’t approve late checkouts any more. They told me this is due to the length of time enhanced cleaning takes. Never hurts to ask, of course.

We were granted a noon checkout last June at GF. They said that’s the latest they give . We weren’t checked in until 5 so I think that’s why they gave it to us . I had to bring that up in order for them to budge .

I’d be very displeased if I had check-in delayed and wasn’t given an hour of wiggle room at check out. Good for you.

I don't understand how it has become acceptable for hotels to keep pushing back check in time while still wanting everyone out at 11. Check in time used to be 1pm, then it kept being pushed back an hour at a time. Some hotels are up to 4-5pm check in times. How is it that 20 years ago, they were able to get all of the rooms cleaned and ready by 1 or 2pm, but can't do so now? And this has started well before covid so I don't buy that excuse of extra cleaning.

Because they have much less staff and an unwillingness to pay more to get more staff.

I have never been able to get late check out.
I would suggest dropping your belongings off with bell services before you head out. They will hold them for you.

You missed the part where this was happening well before covid when places where not understaffed.

I've requested a late check out ~4 times and they were able to honor it once. So it's possible! Sometimes I ask just to ask. It's not usually a "need" but a "convenience".

You can certainly ask, but I've always been told that DVC resorts do not grant late checkout requests even for those staying on cash reservations (we always book as a cash reservation). I've had good luck getting late checkouts at deluxe resorts, but never DVC. I would keep looking for a later tour time.

You missed the part where this was happening well before covid when places where not understaffed.

Um, not really. Hotels that had declines in customer service levels Pre-Covid also didn’t want to pay to have enough staff to maintain their old customer service ways.

At AKL I’d say unlikely to get a late check out. However we’ve gotten late check out several times at POR, preferred both at 14 and in 18. Typically I search out the Mousekeeper and just ask politely. She typically says of course and that she’ll do our room last. Perhaps it’s because of the tip envelope we leave?
now, things have changed and they don’t come in daily and we typically like to waive housekeeping and grab the gift card. Not even sure they are doing that any more.
I’ve never gotten late check out at AKL but have been UPgraded there twice( to Savannah) and was thrilled. So many things have changed since covid and I think limited staff has impacted many things.
