we are flying to sanford this year, we touchdown at 6 by my estimate we should arrive at the boardwalk by 8 allowing for immigration car pick up, husband getting lost at that time will we be allocated the last resort i.e the last room available, or are the rooms allocated before the check ins begin. btw for those of you who saw my previous post it looks like we are going for the 2 studios but they must be next to each other.

Who knows? After reading many posts about this on the main DVC board, it's still no clearer whether DVC try to honour any of the requests you make when booking, or it's the luck of the draw on the day.

Would it be worth checking in the next day and maybe staying somewhere else for the first night, and then get to the Boardwalk bright and early? Is your first night a Friday or Saturday - you could also save some points that way. This is what we're doing, even though we arrived earlier than you do, and I saved a heap of points not booking a 2 Bed on the Saturday night!

We're staying at one next to Orlando Airport. It operates a free shuttle and it isn't a long enough journey for my two young DDs to fall asleep.

When you check in to the Boardwalk the next day, they will store your luggage for you while you enjoy a day at MK. Or why not stay at All Stars or Pop Century so you're still spending your first night at Disney, and just leave your luggage for Disney to move from one resort to the other!

In my experience it's first come first served. It might be different if you have 2 rooms, but the last 2 times we arrived late (9 pm) we got handicap access rooms which as far as I know are given out last

I think this is a great compromise - and it would mean you can still enjoy your traditional first morning in MK Hit the park early, go back to BWV (late morning?) to check in and then return to the parks until your room is ready.

I've done the book a cheap hotel on the night of arrival and it's always worked pretty well. I'd book one near WDW that way you cut your driving time in the morning down to a minimum. With your group ( 5 people I believe ) I'd look at the Holiday Inn Kids suites. It's basically a larger than average hotel room size with a partition in the middle of the room. Mom and dads queen sized bed in one area and the kids have a separate area with a bunk bed ( sleeps two) and a single bed or crib in there as well. The partition doesn't go all the way to the ceiling, but it does break up the room pretty well and defines the kids area pretty well. In our room the kids area had it's own TV and video games console.

I've checked into a DVC resort very late as well and , Like JJpenguin, first up I got a handicap accessed room, second choice was a smoking room (which STANK) we moved rooms the following day to a suitable room, but it wasted a lot of time. In your situation (wanting two rooms reasonably close together) and your staying for a relatively long stay I think your best chance of getting your requests filled are to book a hotel room for one night somewhere and then book into your DVC room the next day. If it was one room and only a couple of days then any difficulties with the room is going to be a minor inconvenience, for a longer stay and wanting 2 rooms those minor problems are going to fester the longer the holiday goes on and may spoil the holiday for you all.

I have a feeling I know where you think the arguments are going to come from , but your DD is going to have to learn that if she wants some things (and it seems staying at BW is her primary concern) then at times one has to make compromises to bring about what we wish. A much easier option is obviously to have a 2 bedroom unit at OKW, then you're guaranteed of all being near each other, however if she wants the 2 room at BWV option, then you will want to insist that the rooms are close to each other (if she's anything like my older DD she'd be hoping that her friend and her would be able to have a room to themselves AS FAR AWAY FROM YOU AS POSSIBLE LOL). The best way to bring get your wishes is to check in early on the 2nd day and give the front desk the best chance to work for you. You will probably need to return to the hotel early afternoon just to make sure the room requests are dealt with to your satisfaction.

I'm afraid you might not get the studios next to each other but you should get them closeby. Given the ages of your DD and her friend, they should be ok as long as they're not too far away. We ALWAYS put our 3 in a room of their own, though within a few rooms of each other, from the age of 13,12 and 9.

We'd booked 2 studios (one for me, DH, and DD, and the other for INLS), checked in late on a Monday (around 8pm). We had requested NS, NH, Near each other, and high floor. ALL requests were honoured!
I did think about spending our first night somewhere else and then checking in the BWV the next day but after travelling for sooooooo long, I knew we would just be too tired and wouldn't want the hassle so we didn't bother.
Just the luck of the draw sometimes I think.
