What is the last week or last two weeks of August like, crowd-wise? I know its hot and there's the whole hurricane threat that looms since I've visited early September. But DH would prefer to wait for our next trip until after July 2017 and I can't fathom waiting until the following spring and I don't want to take kids out of school in beginning of school year or go during level 10 days, so is last 2 weeks august bad as far as crowd?

I was there a few years ago. It gets pretty packed; I think this is because last minute visitors right before school goes back. It isn't at Christmas levels, but definitely above average.

I've gone a few times in the last 2 weeks of Aug and it's fine, now it's not lovely early Sept crowd levels, but it's manageable and not crowded.

On the contrary, This is one of the more manageable times to go....( That is if you can stand the Heat, & the Quick T/storms )

Been there twice during this time of year.....The beginning of August is still pretty bad, with the 2nd & 3rd week a lil better. That last week crowd levels will be 4's or so. Maybe not on the weekend but for sure during the weekdays.

Southern schools usually go back within those first few weeks in August.. You should be fine..

Middle of August crowds start out high/moderate and they only get lower each day as September approaches. It's a great time to go if you can stand the heat and humidity.

After living practically next door to the parks for a couple years, I can tell you the crowds and traffic lessen considerably after mid-August. Very manageable. The parks aren't empty by any stretch, but nothing like mid summer.

Though the last few years have been busier than our earlier trips (09, 10, 11), the crowds do indeed go down after the middle of August. I've found that aside from the insane heat, and constant threat of storms, the later half of August is a nice time to visit. It is a great mix of longer summer park hours, with lower crowds than you will find during the summer peak.

Our next trip we plan on end of August due to school so this is encouraging :thumbsup2

Most of my trips have been during the last two weeks in August, and I have to agree - the heat is DISGUSTING - but somehow we always survive! The crowds aren't bad at all. In face we're pllanning on going for the last week in August again this year! :-)

THe crowds are not too bad, and honestly if the heat was not like the surface of the Sun, we would go more often. Last August was horiffic in terms of heat and thunderstorms. I get rain every day, and don't mnd that, but there were storms a lot. We are not troopers, so no racing through deluges for us! LOL!

Mid/late August is our usual trip time - mid has longer park hours, late has a bit lower crowds. Resort prices flucuate sometime in there too, between seasonal prices?

Thank you all for your advice. I think it will be definitely be an option for us. I've done heat and humidity and its not an issue, plus we want to stay at Beach Club so breaks in the middle of the day at Storm Along Bay sound wonderful to me.

We were there the 3rd week in August this year. Crowds were not light but not horrible either. The worst crowds we came across were at MK. If you have a plan and FP's it is not hard to do everything you decide to do. There was one day on Wednesday at MK it was a 10 on the crowd level but we didnt really have to much trouble doing the things we wanted except BTMRR the wait time on it stayed pretty high so we skipped it.
For the weather it was hot but we just planned swim breaks, air conditioned shows or sit down dinners during the middle part of the day. It did rain and storm almost everyday around 3:00 to 5:00 . We had a couple of days with only a few sprinkles though.

As others have said crowd wise its pretty good. It's hot, no question, and the last couple years I keep asking myself why I'm doing this to myself and my family but schedules and crowds win out. Also note when labor day is. If you go the week before labor day that weekend starts to get busier by Thursday. If labor day is late and you go the week before, you are actually going first week of September (and the last 2 years we have gotten a little halloween decor at the tail of our trip). If labor day is early then you are there in the last 2 weeks of August you have a few more folks in the parks because school schedules. You'll also likely see discounts during that time period that you probably wouldn't in busier summer weeks.

The last week in Aug is one of my favorite times to go. The week leading up to Labor Day has usually been pretty light but the temps are hot. You might even see some of the Halloween decorations go up during that last week.
