Late August - crowds always low?

Hey fellow Disboarders,

We recently took an impromptu trip from August 29th - September 2nd. The crowds were amazingly low. The longest we waited for any ride was 30 minutes (we did skip ROTR) but MOST rides were walk-on's. I'm curious if this time of year is always so slow, or was it just related to the mask mandate recently being reimplemented, or fears of Delta? Any thoughts from people who have been that time of year in the past? Is it always so dead at that time?

Thanks for any input. Debating booking another trip for the same time frame for next year.

We have been there at the end of August and crowds were extremely low. Part of the cause is the weather, hot and rainy - usually. And part of it is that the kids have gone back to school in many parts of the country.

I was there in late August this year as well.
I've been in late August a number of times.
I love late August for the low crowds but I will say this year was especially low crowds.
You're not likely to find the crowds to be that low in a "normal" year.
I think it was a combo of revenge travel winding down, schools starting back up fully in person, and worries about cases in Florida.

Crowds are traditionally lower in late August after many school are back in session but this year was not typical due to the number of people who cancelled/did not book trips due to the situation at the time.

you mean eng,ish schools aren’t back yet many U.K. schools go back mid august

I must admit I was just assuming they were all similar to my daughter's, but either way, you'd expect the pent up demand from the last couple of years to make end of August busier.

That makes a lot of sense. Between cancellations and the potential for pent-up demand, it's tougher to tell what 'normal' crowd levels will be in 2022 and 2023.
