We are looking forward to our Dream cruise in late August and are wondering if there tend to be fewer school-aged children/teens on those sailings because a lot of schools start mid-August these days. Anyone who's been on a late-Aug sailing want to weigh in? My younger DD, who will be 10.5 years old at that time, is hoping that she will be allowed in Edge. We have advised her that it depends on the number of kids on the sailing, etc., and she knows that she can go to the Open House hours with her 13-y-o sister in any case. (She is not interested in the Lab but will happily hang out with me if she can't go to Edge, so we're not worried about keeping her entertained :))

School in the US typically is out from mid-June to the end of August, so that's pretty much still "in season" and will have more kids.

Most of the people I know who are not in the northeast US get out mid-May and go back mid-August. Was your experience in late August that there were a lot of kids? (I mean, more than, say, July?)

I would say it will have less kids than a July cruise but there will still be a fare number. We go back mid August in NE Ohio but there are still many areas that go back after Labor Day.

We sailed on the Fantasy August 22, 2015 and my son just turned 11 a couple of weeks prior. They had no problem letting him and his friend (his family sailed with us and he was 10 and a half) into the Edge club. I would say there were a lot of kids sailing. The clubs were definitely not empty! But my son actually preferred the oceaneers club/lab with his younger sister (he's very shy). We just signed him up for both and he could come and go as he pleased.
We are from NJ and most schools out here in the tri state area start after Labor Day.

Yay, thank you! I'm excited about our late August cruise and am hoping our district sticks with post-Labor-Day start days, although we can get bitten by that when we have lots of snow days and the kids are in school until late June with no air conditioning, ugh. We were eyeing some of the mid-June cruises with longing...

Around the Panhandle (FL/AL) schools are actually out for summer around Memorial Day and back way before Labor Day (try Aug 10th this year!). So it really just depends on the school district and state. You'll have fewer Floridians anyway.
