Late arrival hotel

We are arriving about 10:30 pm and I would rather just stay at hotel with shuttle back to the airport so we can get our car and head out to Vero beach.

Can you recommend a clean but reasonable hotel near the airport with a free shuttle or a car rental on location?

I would go for a 3 or 3.5 star hotel via a Priceline bid in the MCO zone (do NOT bid on the airport west zone). The 3.5 sta places that appear often include the Hyatt (inside the airport), the Corwne Plaza, the Renaissance, the Marriot and the Sheraton Suites. 3 star places are the Courtyard, Holiday Inn and I think a WIngate and a couple other places. All are clean, safe and have 24/7 shuttle service to the airport complimentary for guests. A bid of $43 to 53/night will usually get a 3.5* property and $35 to 40 for a 3*.

If you bid at the 2.5* level or below they usually have limited shuttle hours so you might be better off sticking to 3 or 3.5*.
