Late 70's early 80's girls

I have curly hair, I ROCKED banana clips!!!

See, I have thick, curly hair and so desperately wanted to rock the banana clip but to no avail. I'd put in in, looking so cool, then an hour or so later would feel a little "click" and it would unclip but still be partially stuck in my hair! At least I did big bangs really well!:thumbsup2

Well, I didn't say it wasn't painful! I wish big hair would come back. I had the best big hair.

I was telling DD the other day about how tight we wore jeans....you had to turn them inside out and stand on them to get them off! These kids, thinking they invented skinny jeans! HA!

YEP I remember I used to lay on my bed trying to zip my jeans LOL and the banana clip I loved that thing.. my dd had a coach that called the little meta; barrettes that snap in the hair banana clip that just irked me to no end as dd still tries to call them banana clips :headache:

I also remember that my jeans were so skinny I could barely get my feet in them...:rotfl:

I used to get up very early to do my hair to get my bangs just right...:rotfl2:

I once burnt off part of my bangs because the combination of aqua net and super high heat from the blowdryer just was too much!

do you remember stores that pretty much only sold jeans and cords. There would be walls and walls of the same thing in different sizes and colors. Ex. Levi store.
Do you remember going to order t-shirts where you picked it out and had it ironed on. We used to get the girl style with the capped sleeves and looked for glitter things. Ex. rose with glitter. Very cheesy I know.

When I was little (maybe 7 or 8), my parents bought me a baby blue t-shirt with Shaun Cassidy on it and "Shaun!" in glittery, flowing script across the corner of the picture. It was AWESOME. I loved that shirt. I think they might have gotten it at Peaches, the record store.

Yep. I remember getting the "Jersey's" and having a picture ironed on. I also remember stores having a glass case of buttons that you could get of your favorite actors/actresses and the hottest bands at the time.

And don't forget your name on the back in flocked/fuzzy letters. That truly put the look over the edge.

What about feathered clips we wore in our hair or other places. Um, these clips had other uses but we called them an accesory.

I had one of those. I had no idea what it really was while I was in HS!

I only wore Levis. Only guys jeans--size 27" waist that I could take off with undoing them! My waist was a 22" in HS so I wore them low and never wore girls jeans. Back then, you could only really find Levis in a store like you describe. We'd go to Myrtle Beach SC in the summer and I'd stock up for the school year.

I remember those tee-shirt shops being there also. Around there they were all called "WINGS" and they had a zillion iron-ons to choose from. I never was into the rose but remember them well. I do remember going in almost every store on the "Grand Strand" looking for a shirt with Grover from Sesame Street on it. Got my name in block letters on that thing and wore it for my PE shirt most of the time!

Otherwise, I was wearing surf shop tee-shirts every day of the week. Every kind but RonJon's. We weren't allowed to wear RonJon shirts because my parents knew him and it had a shady history. ;) (LBI, the original!)
No "Tourist Go Home" shirts were allowed either. My parents were so strict about about that kind of thing.

Love your memories though. :) How old are you because I can relate to all your stuff. I'll be 45 on Friday.

I am the same age. And after my glitter tshirt phase was my surf clothing phase which I am still in sometimes. I spent muchoney buying Op and other brands. They had awesome tshirts and loose drawstring pants. Remember the short tight cord shorts ? Funny about RonJon. We went to mom and pop shops. I go to obx every year and there are tons of Wings stores.

The things I did to my hair in the '80s just make me want to cry.

I remember all of these things. I wore cords, levis, a big comb in my pocket, and those T-shirts with the iron-ons. My hair was feathered and stiff from Aqua Net, but I really envied the girl with perfect Farrah Fawcett hair.

We used to wear those slouch socks tucked into our pants. The big belts. Then there were the leg warmers. Oh, so cool. :lmao:

Oh, and what about the barrettes with the ribbon braided through the 2 sides and then left to dangle down, with little beads and whatnot on the ends? HOT.

I remember I got some that had red and green ribbon in them, with alternating red and green tri-beads on the end, from a lady who made and sold them at our swim meets. I was awesome.

We did the mom and pop type stores also. And every store I went in up and down the coast, I bought a tee-shirt. Long sleeves, short sleeves. I am sure people thought it was all I had. :rotfl:

I do remember those cord shorts. You know, Walmart picked up Op this past summer and they had those shorts for sale there. I was so excited when I got the ad in the mail! I bought DD a pair and guess what? No comparison! I took them back. :( They were great shorts back then!!

Oh and back when I was a kid--RonJon's was a mm and Pop type store. As a kid I thought it was quite a dump, actually. Now, they are fancy and while nice, they do not have the charm that those old surf shops had!

God bless Farrah Fawcett and her hair. :worship: I suffered too long, trying in vain to get my hair even remotely straight like all those girls in the early 70s. Then gorgeous Farrah and her big old mane of golden hair came along and I was saved! I was MADE for Farrah hair! It was even the right color. And I was from Texas. She was like a fairy godmother, only of hair. Suddenly, big*** wild hair was to die for and I had it made in the shade. Thank you Farrah! :thumbsup2

Izod, OP were the cool thing in high school. We also had a jeans store, called Country Roads. Oh and don't forget the Gloria Vanderbelt jeans! The shoes were the navy blue suede clogs and Mia's. Loved them!!!

I had these in every freaking color. It was during my Xanadu phase. I WAS Olivia Newton John at the skating rink!!

The slouch socks paired with the high top Reeboks, was just the coolest thing EVER! Add your big 'ol v-necked sweater with a coordinating tank top underneath, and you had it going on!

Was I the only one who jumped and squeeled with glee when they found out Anderson Cooper was Gloria Vanderbilts son???
