So I just read somewhere that this may be the last year for the Osborne Lights. If it's true, that makes me really sad. Does anyone have any word on why? Is it just a rumor?

If it's the last year, then I may need to fit in a quick extra trip.
:fish:

Doesn't this rumor come up every year for the last 3-4 years, I think.

Well good. I definitely hope it's just a rumor that comes to nothing.
:teleport:

I'm 100% certain that the Streets of America is being torn down as part of the rework. I'm NOT so certain that it means the end of the Osborne Lights - Especially with the frozen dessert party this year that goes along with it.

I think they could move it to another section of the park (possibly the main street?) or maybe reincorporate it into whatever the new design is.

Obviously, this to be taken with a grain of salt, but a CM at the pretzel cart in DHS (which is probably ALMOST as reliable as a bus driver!!) told me last week that 1) the Osbourne lights would move to Epcot next year 2) The stunt show/backlot/streets of America would be made into Cars Land and the Pixar Place expansion and 3) Star Wars land would go over near Star Tours, with Indiana Jones show closing to make more room. I do think big changes are coming to DHS but who knows what they will end up being??

I wouldn't say 100% sure but I agree with this. The Studios is obviously going through a change over and the lights will be there this year. Next year? Well, that's next year. And this year hasn't even happened yet.

I wouldn't trust the word of a pretzel cart CM. You really need to talk to a boat driver, or at the very least, a turkey leg cart CM to really know what's going on. :rotfl:

According to Jim Hill it's no longer going to be called Osborne Lights but instead have a tie in to their show on ABC - the Christmas Light Fight or something like that and the winner will have a role in putting up the lights. He did not specify where it would happen but it sounds like there will be lights still just not sure where or in what form.

This is a rumor so take it as such. No one knows for sure. Disney may not even know for sure yet.

This makes the most logical sense though, so maybe the Pretzel Cart CM has some friends on the other side ;)

1) the Osbourne lights would move to Epcot next year

I was thinking Epcot might be a good fit but I wasn't sure where they'd go, maintain the musical sequences and still have space for everyone to walk through them? American Pavilion seems too traditional (and small). The front of the park seems more like a natural fit - the "tombstone" space in front of the Sphere would seem a perfect spot but there's nowhere for the lights to go.

I love the lights and hope they stay, but to change the name would, IN MY OPINION, be disrespectful to the Osborne family and I hope that doesn't happen.

I am also a fan of the Osborne lights but that area is quite a bit of space that backs right up to Star Tours if you catch my drift.

If this is true, then I am SO glad we are heading down next month!!

I'd really like a CarsLand and an expanded Star Wars area makes sense. But IF it's true, I'll be a little disappointed. IF it's the last year in its present location I'm very glad we planned on going this year.

I guess we'll have to wait and see...

I know this is really farfetched but I would love to see an Osborne lights across the world showcase, like every pavilion colored in lights, it'd be so cool!

Thanks for all of the input! Looks like if I want to see the lights as they are now I need to try to make a quick trip this year. I will be interested to see what happens in years to come.

I couldn't see the studios willingly giving up the lights. My understanding it the contract with the Osbourne family is up, so this is the last year they will be called that. However, this is the BIG event for the studios. Epcot has flower & garden and food & wine; the Lights have been the "boost" for the studios.

Of course, with the changes going on there, who knows what's in store.
