We've always taken our kids out of school for a week and gone either in September or October and the crowds are wonderfully low. With my oldest starting middle school next year I'm trying to get around her missing a week of a new school/atmosphere so soon in the school year. Wondering if any one has been to Disney the week before Labor Day and if it's crazy busy or if schools a cross the country have already started back up for the school year and the crowds are low?

TIA.

Crowd levels do drop off significantly starting around mid-August.

To compare it to your Sept/Oct experiences-

We went a few years ago for two weeks right at the end of Sept through the beginning of October. The first few days (Sept) were empty, but there were some quite busy days by the end of the trip (Oct).

When we went last year for two weeks at the end of August, we found it busier than Sept, but less crowded than the beginning of Oct.

We were in the same situation as you, our oldest child was really getting too old to take out of school for two weeks. (Our favorite time is early May) We weren't thrilled with the idea of August heat, but it was actually much better than we had expected. Since our children were a bit older that trip, we found that we really enjoyed staying in the parks for EMH late at night when it was cooler.

We've always gone that last week in August and find it very manageable. It's HOT but I can deal with that if there aren't huge crowds. I have found that the weekend does get very busy though. We usually go from the Sunday before Labor Day weekend through the Saturday of Labor Day. Avoid the crowds altogether that way!

We go every year the last week of Aug/first week of Sept, and wouldn't have it any other way. Almost no crowds, walk onto many rides and attractions, or very short and manageable lines. If anything has a stand-by of more than 20 min, we grab a FP and go find something else to do. Never stand in long lines :). If you're ok with the heat and humidity, it's a fabulous time to go.

Great thanks! We booked our flights yesterday for the last week in August.
If you're lucky you can score Free Dining during that time. We always went to WDW the last couple of weeks of August but my DD started High School and swim team starts up right when we usually go on vacation.
