How hot is it the last week in August? Are the parks busy? Do you have to book 11 months out to get a room? Just got back and have the itch again. Since we do not yet know the breaks for next year, lookin gto give Aug a try? What do you think?

Very hot. Very humid.
Are the parks busy?
Yes, but not as busy as earlier in the summer.

Not unless you want a standard view or a boardwalk view.

Go for it!!!

1) HOT (92, humid, sunny, rains an hour around 5PM and then the evenings are not too bad). Wear swim shorts and sandals.
2) Last week is not too crowded (schools ar back in session etc).
3) Could most likely reserve a couple months out and get anything except maybe a GV. We usually reserve mid August about 4 months out no problem. If you know your dates though, why wait?
4) Great time to go in our opinion.

We always tried to avoid summer on our WDW trips -- we were very fearful of the heat and crowds. We had done 4th of July, and compared to Oct., or Jan, or even the week before xmas, it was just too much humanity for us (and all sweaty ones, too).

HOWEVER... along came our 3 kids, and now, with school and sports schedules such as they are, literally the ONLY time for our last trip was August. We took the 3rd week timeframe, for 9 days. By that time, many of the Southern schools have resumed (ours started the day after we got home!) Personally, yes it was hot. We thought AK was the worst for feeling that heat (tho' Kali helped some!) And it was humid, and it did rain for a brief spell each day. But on the flip side of that -- the kids used the pools ALOT and LOVED their first trip to a water park (never did a water park before -- our trips in the "off-season" always seemed too cool... our last Jan trip it never got above 50. I know the pool is heated.... but sooner or later you have to get OUT of it! Brrrr!) The crowds were not bad at all, either. And with summer clothes, you sure don't have to pack as much (no jackets or long pants needed!) We actually have scheduled a trip for Aug 2004, so we must have enjoyed it! The kids are very excited about hitting BOTH water parks this time, and maybe finally getting to try Disney Quest -- all good ideas when you're beating the heat!

My only side-bar to this, however, is that the kids get so dehydrated so quickly in the heat. Plan to take lots of breaks; if they are still nap-aged, head back to the resort during the heat of the day. I can't imagine carrying a baby in that heat, either -- a hot little potato pressed up against an already hot "you" is bound to be less than comfy for both parties.

See you in August 2004, maybe??

Our past 2 trips home have been after aug16th. Parks are less crowded and to me the weather great! It is hot so we tend to stay a little longer and not rush our trip. we plan to go again the 1st week of august.

We went the last week of August 2002. It was hot, but I don't think it was humid as it was when we left DE. Since you are from NJ then you know how humid it can get. It was definitely not as humid in FL as it was at home. There was hardly any crowd the last week because the southern states where already back at school. I would definitely do it again. Just note that the hours will be cut back that last week at some of the parks such as MK and MGM.:earsgirl:

We've gone several times. It is indeed hot and humod and it rains just about every day, sometimes all day, sometimes for an hour or so. Bring some ponchos, you will definitely need them, and they are cheaper at WalMart or Target than at Disney. Plus, you will be able to find your kids more easily in the sea of yellow Mickey ponchos!

I think the parks are still fairly crowded, but not bad. A lot of Brits go at this time of year, it seems, so it makes up somewhat for a lot of Yanks being back at school.

Don't mean to be a downer, but we went this past Aug (3rd week) and we didn't really like it so much.

Although, we stayed at WLV and enjoyed that tremendously!

We only had 2 days that the rain didn't fall for more than 2 hours, and the other 4 days, when the rain started the pools were closed and the lake cleared due to thunderstorms in the area.

It was very disappointing and we don't plan on going back in August. :(

There is a big difference in crowds between the third week and the fourth week in August, IMHO.;)

I can't tell you how many times I heard that it only rains for an hour in the evening. Maybe there is some Florida time that people talk about but it is more like several hours. We went in August (mid-august) and it rained 5 of the 6 nights we were there. And, it rained for 2 to 3 hours each evening. Some evenings it was raining so hard that we couldn't even go out. So, I was a little disappointed with that. The days were great and the humidity didn't bother me as much I thought it would. And, I live in hot desert type weather. We won't be going in August again.

I agree with joepoe because we where there the 3rd and 4th week of 2002. The 3rd week was really crowded, but after the weekend it started to drop off and by the 4th week it was not very crowded at all. It only rained for about 20 minutes in the 3 or 4 days that it did rain; out of the 10 days that we where there. :cool1: You can never perdict the weather but I would definitely go back the last week of August. :teeth:
