I am not sure if I should be really upset and sad or if I should be excited.

I have been having some hip pain for a few months now and for those who have read my other thread(in the disAbilities section)will know what I'm talking about.
Anyways I went in for a follow up with my surgeon this morning, to find out that I require emergency surgery which has been booked for June 29th. My boyfriend and I are leaving for Disneyland in a few days but we will be flying home early(the day before surgery)so I can be home for surgery.

It's major surgery. A 6 hours procedure that takes 3 surgeons to do and 1-2 weeks in hospital then 4 months of rehab before I can walk again.

Now I could not imagine spending the last 5 days before surgery any other way than with the man of my dreams in Disneyland but it's mixed emotions as I know that they day following my coming back, I will be going under the knife.

Feeling a little on the down side at the moment, and tho I'm not sure what I need right now, any words of encouragement you guys have, will go a long ways.

Thanks for reading folks, I hope everyone is happy, healthy and enjoying life to it's full potential.

Much Love from Canada.

Sorry to hear that you need major surgery but hopefully once you're healed it will resolve the hip pain you've been having. And how great that you get to do DLR one more time before all that rehab! Just relax and have fun on your trip and try not to think about the surgery too much. Maybe you could do something special at DLR that you weren't originally planning on doing as sort of a "reward" for all the recovering you're going to be doing. Like maybe splurge on the fantasmic dessert or a special dinner at napa rose or blue bayou or something like that.

I haven't had very many medical issues myself (one surgery- c-section) but my DS3 has a lot of medical issues and has had about 4 or 5 surgeries and many other medical procedures where he had to be sedated so I can understand a little bit about what you're going through as far as anticipating the surgery and dealing with the doctors and hospitals and physical therapists. It's hard but you can do it!

When you get a chance, give us a report about how your trip went and update us on how you're doing after surgery!

Good luck and have a great trip! Don't forget to just relax and have fun! :goodvibes

I faced a similar situation in March of 2007. I was extremely ill and really close to dying. Thank the Lord and an excellent surgeon everything worked out for the better. But when we went I decided to make the most out of it and I had one of the best trips that I have ever had at Disneyland. Yes, I was miserably ill but I made the most of it and just let loose. So my advice is go and have the best time you can. And when it comes time to rehab, do the things that they tell you to because it will pay off in the end.

Don't think if it as your last trip to Disneyland...think of it as your last trip to Disneyland in pain! Have a great trip and good luck as you recover in the months to follow.

I hope that you have an enjoyable trip. I hope that your surgery goes well and that your recovery is speedy. Enjoy your trip to Disneyland...you will have nice memories from the trip that will help your during yuor recovery and then you can plan another trip when you are ready.

There is no place I would rather be either given the situation. I am a breast cancer survivor over 10 years, and went to DL before many a surgery/procedure and after :)
Soak it in, really. And you will have your "happy place" to focus on before surgery.
Then start planning your return trip :wizard: it's the best medicine.

Make sure to take tons of pictures!!! Then after the trip maybe your boyfriend can have them printed for you while you are recovering and you can slip them into a photo album so that you can flip through them and enjoy the memories of the trip on those days when you are not feeling so perky :goodvibes.

Above all, I would focus on the future (after surgery and rehab). There is nothing like giving yourself a goal for motivation. Maybe you can set a goal to go back again in one year (with doctor's permission) and enjoy Disneyland pain free! :thumbsup2

Lots of hugs and love! :grouphug:

I totally agree. Live it up in DL and take TONS of pics and have them all ready for you (In a digital frame the hospital maybe?) You'll need a boost.

I wish you the best trip ever and the best of luck in surgery!!! Here's to fast recovery and a new pain free visit to DL soon! :)

Thank you very much everyone. I have read your kind words a few times. You are right tho, posting pictures of our trip this week in my hospital room is definitely going to help with recovery.

Thanks again for everything everyone, Great forum and your support means a lot more than you realize :)

thanks again :)

I was at Disneyland Easter vacation and I had to be taken to the hospital my ambulance. It turned out I had a gallbladder attack and the stone left the gallbladder and was stuck in the duct. Needless to say I came home and had to go through surgery. I know my surgery was minors compared to yours but surgery is surgery and no one wants to go through it.

It has been four weeks since surgery and tomorrow we have another trip to Disneyland planned. I am on the other side of surgery and going back to Disney! You will be here on the other side of surgery as well!:goodvibes

Enjoy your time in Disneyland!
Do everything the doctors and nurses tell you to do! Especially deep breathing and coughing for at least two weeks after surgery.

Good luck, stay strong and take care!
