Last Trip for a While...

Last family trip for a while. My parents wanna do Italy and after a year as AP holders, we're taking some time off from Disney (most likely—we say that all the time). My sister and I may re-up as AP holders, but it'd just be us going and we don't do restaurants during brother-sister trips.

Anyway, so it's our last trip probably until the 50th year anniversary.

Let's pretend it's your last trip for a while... what do you do? Do you go with old favorites to get "one last taste" or do you do a bunch of new places you've never tried before?

We have a bad habit or repeating restaurants over and over again and I fear that's part of the reason why we need a break. We've never dined at Sci-Fi or (outside of Homecomin) any of the DS restaurants, so we're throwing around the idea of trying new places with one or two favorites sprinkled in...

We always do half & half and one TS reservation per day. So, if we have 8 days, that gives us 4 repeats and 4 new TS experiences. If you want to experience Sci-Fi, another option is to book it at an unusual time of day (maybe 2-3p or late after 8p) and then just order dessert.

Since you've said one main factor in not returning to WDW for a long time is you're tired of the same TS reservations, I might even lessen my ratio to 25% repeats and 75% new experiences. This way you hit your favorite one or two meals and then do so much more.

Definitely add in a unique Disney experience like Sci Fi.
I wouldn’t go all-new.

My problem with DS is the transportation time. It’s a great diversion on a non-park day, but I wouldn’t take over too many park days with DS dining.

And How long is my imaginary last trip? Every trip we do some of our favorites but we always try a few new ones.

Best surprises & some new favorites to the line up, Satuli in AK, Spice Road Table in Morocco/Epcot. Next trip trying the Edison and Enzo's.

P.S. Sci-Fi is beyond adorable, the decor, the experience and it has good food (reuben, fried pickles)

I agree with Satuli in AK! Also either Sanaa or Boma in AKL. Depending on the make up of your group, Boma may work better. However either is a a great way to enjoy AKL and animal viewing. The best at the lodge is right outside of Sanaa.

So we're going from 12/24 - 1/1

As of now, we're looking at the following:

Homecomin - repeat from Easter. LOVED it. It'd only be our second time going
Cali Grill or Artist Point - been to both, but it's been a while
Yachtsman for NYE - We stay in Beach Club and avoid the parks on NYE. We've been doing Yachtsman the past few years and really enjoy it.

Sci-Fi Dine-In: Never been. We know the food isn't great but we'll be at DHS for the nighttime stuff and will need to eat, plus, we heard the atmosphere is great. Been to 50's a ton of times so it's time to try something new.

Gonna do a dinner at Satuli Canteen. I love the burger pods and could really go for the new bowls there. My sister tried Pecos Bill's last trip and loved it. We'll be back.

Places we've done a ton and are taking a break from/are not going to: Narcoossee's, Ohana, Yak & Yeti (bad experience last time), Biergarten didn't do it for us, we didn't like the Italy Pavilion restaurants, been to Teppan Edo a bunch, Coral Reef wasn't great, BOG is changing, Beaches and Cream is good but not worth the TS.

I'm actually living this situation. Our Dec 2017 trip will be our last Disney trip until either summer 2021 or summer 2022. I ended up changing around a number of our TS meals last minute because people in our party decided they didn't want this or that, but here's where we ate before our long Disney break...

1900 Park Fare Dinner
Sci Fi Lunch
Brown Derby Dinner
Tiffins ROL Pkg Lunch
Tusker House Dinner
Cape May Breakfast
Biergarten CP Pkg Dinner
'Ohana Brekafast
Liberty Tree Dinner
Trattoria al Forno Breakfast
Le Cellier Dinner
Crystal Palace Breakfast
'Ohana Dinner
1900 Park Fare Breakfast

I was asked to ditch Narcoosee's dinner, Beaches & Cream for ice cream, Teppan Edo, and Rose & Crown lunch for a number of the things above. While we are taking a long break from Disney in general, we're going to be taking an even longer break from going heavy on TS dining like this in the future. We normally have a lot of ADRs, but so many of these meals were meh to bad that we've decided QS meals, offsite dining, and food delivery are going to be our go-to in the future. It's too bad, because some of the things above like 'Ohana dinner and 1900 Breakfast which are normally faves were extremely disappointing this past trip. If I knew now what I did before travel (including how set we'd be on taking a lengthy break), I would have swapped Le Cellier for Yachtsman (what I wanted to do but DH protested), California Grill instead of 'Ohana dinner, Flying Fish outside of HS instead of Brown Derby, leave the park for Sanaa instead of Tusker dinner, Kona breakfast instead of 1900 Park Fare breakfast, a trip outside of HS to BW Bakery for a quick lunch instead of Sci Fi, and Skipper Canteen instead of Liberty Tree. That would have hopefully made our dining before our long break a lot better.

Thanks for your input. I semi-remember us having this convo when I posted about taking a break until 2021.

At this point, I think the best bet is for my family to settle on 2 or three meals, then each pick a place to go. Gives everyone some input, everyone can go to their "bucket list" spot and/or enjoy one last meal at their favorite spot.

Last trip (Easter) I skipped getting a carrot cake cookie, then I read on DFB that they changed the recipe. Little things like that make me want to make the most of my trip this time around. I've always wanted to do Boma Breakfast, so I'm pushing for it.

I agree with the settle on 2-3 method. Whenever we go back, we will probably let each kid pick one TS and then my husband and I will decide on a third IF we feel the need. I regret not having breakfast at Boma when we stayed at AKL in 2013. We haven't had reason to be over there that early since that trip. Sad that they changed the carrot cake cookie. I've only had it once, but it's so popular that it makes no sense to mess with it.

Favorite rides, favorite shows, favorite foods. End on a dessert party with liquor and toast the times.

Every year in February my wife and I go to WDW. That is always our last trip for awhile. Then we are back the following February. I don't know what "awhile" means to you but 12 months is a LOOOOONG awhile for me to be away from my favorite place.

This last trip we finally got to experience some TS and we loved it!! I would recommend Sci-Fi, have been there twice.
Only TS I've been to are:
Boatrights
BOG
CRT
Sci-Fi
T rex
Via Napoli
And I would recommend all of them Oh and we did the Tomorrowland Terrace Dessert Party which I would totally do again if I had the extra dough
