Has anyone ever flown in the last row of an airplane?

We just finally got our seats, but in order for us to fly somewhat together (DD and I in row behind DS & DH), DD and I will have to fly in the middle seat and window seat of the last row.

It seems to me the seats don't recline?? How miserable will we be for 3 1/2 hours?

Anyone have any input?

Chris

I hate the last row!!! It is close to the bathrooms, so always traffic and the noise from the engines is unbearable. See if you can switch - you will be much happier toward the front of the plane.

I really don't think that there is a problem with that row. I never recline in my seat anyway. I find it is nice because you can get to the bathroom easily, and it also sounds if it is important for the family to be in close proximity. There are lots of things to worry about, don't let this be one of them.

We were in the last row on a flight to Paris last year and our only complaint was that it got a little noisy, but even wth the big engines it wasn't too bad at all. It was more turbulent on the back of you think that will upset your kids, but mine were only scared at first, and by the end of the flight, it was a fun rollercoaster! Its great because you are close to the bathrooms, and have a little more room to walk because of the extra space they leave in the aisles to accompany bathroom lines. It wasnt really a problem for a 10 hour flight so I think it will be just fine for 3 and a half. Just in case I would bring the meltdown survival bags, with a blankie that smells like home, games, things that are comforting, on and a DVD player can work wonders. You can watch about 2 movies in 3 and a half hours, and its like toddler drugs! Of they get scared by turbulence, tell them its a ride, and its all mickey magic.

Thanks for all the input!

I called the airline, and it just goes to show you you should just ask! The reservationist rearranged things (which surprised me since the online view of the plane showed nearly all the seats booked!)

She got us into rows 20 and 21 in the seats we wanted. :cool1:

I'm so relieved!

Thanks everyone!

Glad you resolved your problem. In the future you should check this site before selecting seats. It has seating charts by airline by type of equipment and points out problems with certain seats. If you hover your cursor over the seats a pop up will show you what is right or wrong with the seats (for example seats marked in red are the worst with problems like limited recline or poor visibility of inflight movies).

We have done the last row before...tends to be the only row where we can get 6 seats across which we need. The single largest problem, for us, with that row is the bathrooms. Not so much smell or anything nasty like that. Just the traffic. All these people just waiting to use the bathroom staring at my kids and trying to get them to interact and talking to them. That is nice and everything and I absolutely would rather be on a plane with nice, friendly people than grumpy ogres. However, it often happened when my guys were younger and I was trying to get them to take a short nap on the flight. Just was not going to happen with all that commotion and interaction.

We just flew to Florida (not for mickey though...) on Spirit, and though we didn't have the last row, we were in the back. For our next plane trip, I am 100% going to ask for a seat closer to the front just because standing there all that time to get off the plane watching while the slowest people in the world that are always in front of me take their good 'ol time getting their luggage, chatting, getting the kids in order.... I just couldn't take it! Personally, I'm pretty impatient, but when you have been on a nasty confined plane for HOURS with yours and others screaming kids, and now your FINALLY at your destination - all I want to do is get out of that plane and get to where I need to go! Just my two cents!

Just returned from Disney World last week and on every flight we had the last row. I had very sad children because there was no window! They were looking so forward to watching everything and then no such luck. The row before was right over the motors. Glad you got yours changed!

I personally hate reclining my seat. My favourite aeroplane is the airbus A320 which has a very spacious seating arrangement, without sacrificing quantity of seats. They do this by making the actual seat build, thinner =)
