I am a little worried about my fur baby. The shepard looks to have some kind of skin thing going on in his chest and stomach area. He is losing his hair and it looks really bad. Well I finally got him an appoitment for Friday and I am so worried about what they are going to tell me.

I sure hope so. he is getting really old so we first thought it was just him getting old man skin. But than he really started digging at it. Not sure if he got into something or not.

I am so sorry....our animals are family too...I feel so bad for you all The lady you bought them from may sincerely not have known they were inbred. It could have been that mommy animal "x" was owned by someone and daddy animal "y" was owned by someone else....but that "x" and "y" originally came from the same, original breeder and were related.

Oh man, give your DS a hug....poor kid

Yeah, I know she may not have known. It could also simply be that she thought the animal "x" was the daddy when actually animal "y" had gotten to mommy guinea first! You never know with those critters!

It was so hard to come home and tell Andrew. I know it's only a little guinea pig but to Andrew he was so much more. And the fact that Dale had died about three months ago and Andrew had gone through all this with him was so hard.

give andrew a for us.. It is so hard when one of our little ones are in pain and there is not much we can do to help that pain go away!!

We had a doberman when we lived in FL and he suddenly developed allergies. His skin was so nasty looking and he would lose his hair and his skin smelled so bad. The vet diagnosed it as an allergy and gave him a shot and it cleared up really quickly. Then whenever he had a flare-up we'd just have to get him a shot and he'd be himself again. I believe it was some type of cortisone. It was a pain to have to take him for an "allergy" shot but at least it was a fixable problem. Hope your appointment will go well Friday.

Hi everyone.

Just got home from work and had to stop at the vet to pick Chip up. This was his third trip since last Thursday. The vet met with me when I got there. Chip had passed away about 20 minutes before I got there.

It was so hard to come home and tell Andrew. I know it's only a little guinea pig but to Andrew he was so much more. And the fact that Dale had died about three months ago and Andrew had gone through all this with him was so hard.

The vet said that he thinks there was an underlying heart condition and that he had a circulation problem. When I told him that when Dale died three of his feet had turned purple he said that he was certain that was what it was. He said it was most probably a genetic defect caused by inbreeding. We bought them from someone that I work with and I had questioned her about that when we bought them and she swore there was no inbreeding but...well, I guess we'll never know for sure!

Our Lab started losing hair on his hind quarters and it looked weird

I started giving him a raw egg mixed in his food every couple of days

and it made a HUGE differnce
