My Grandmother just called to tell us that my Aunt has Breast Cancer. :(

They think they have caught it early on so she is in a good position right now. I guess they will know more later.

She will go in for Surgery on the 14th and than do 6 weeks of Chemo. Her DIL is a Nurse that works in a Chemo Treatment Place here in Florida. So I am sure they will keep her well informed of what is happening.

More of a reason for me to walk and raise money and AWARENESS.

Ladies people make sure you have a Mamogram. Early dectection is the key.

Please say a prayer for her. Her name is Arlene.

Last year when I walked it seemed like everyone I talked to was under the age of 40 that had Breast Cancer. I couldn't believe it, I couldn't believe that people our age we getting Breast Cancer. As it is you normally don't even get a mamogram until the ag of 40.

Okay there is something wrong with this picture. More and more women are getting it at a younger age.
I don't think they physically can mamogram you if you are too young....something about the tissue being too dense at a younger age. About 2 years ago I had some lumps checked out...and they said I was too young for a mamogram. Instead, they did an ultrasound of the girls ;) and then I had to see another specialist and he did a physical exam...so that with the ultrasound I was o.k. :goodvibes but, I know I should be better about doing my exams.

I think this is what I will do for lent. Each Friday make a conscious effort to check myself. We usually give up meat on Fridays and on Ash Wednesday, but DH and I decided that instead of giving something more up (than meat...we will still do that) we will add something to our lives (like Kim does).....so, we decided to try and attend mass again. We used to always go, until we had DD :scared: :hyper: ...we tried to go back again last year... :( ...but, now that she is in school and may have better manners, we are going to try this Saturday :teeth: :wizard:

Yes you are correct. I had to have a mamogram and they couldn't tell anything so than I had to have a Ultrasound.

But mainly I wrote that to make sure that everyone gets familiar with thier GIRLS. Know what they feel like and check them out.

And Kim and Kathy are of the age that they should be getting Mamograms.

Tell your Mothers, Sisters, Cousins, Aunts, girlfriends and co-workers.

Can you tell that my mission is started again. So sorry in advance.

I think that is a wonderful idea about putting something back in your life.

Okay there is something wrong with this picture. More and more women are getting it at a younger age.

I heard something on a news program just last week about this. It's not that more and more women are "getting" it at a younger age but that they're finding out that they have it at a younger age. It used to be that they may have actually had it but not found out until they were a little older and, sadly, by then it was usually too late to do anything about it. Now there are so many more women finding out earlier because of early detection and, luckily, now there are more survivors!

One of my good friends is a survivor, 10 years now. I took her to her chemo and radiation because her husband is a trucker and always out-of-town. She never had a masectomy - her husband said no, can you believe that! Her kids were very young (9 and 10) and it was so hard on them. But now she can say she is a SURVIVOR!

:cheer2: I am so glad your friend is doing well and actually, no, I can't believe it :( When I went in to be tested, I was around 28 and DH and I decided ahead of time if there was anything or even a "might" be something, the girls had to go. There wasn't a doubt for me..and DH agreed completely (although it might not have mattered to me if he didn't agree, still would have done it)...with two toddlers at the time, it wasn't worth it, JMHO.

Yes M'am! Had one last spring and will get another this spring. And for those of you "not old enough yet" :teeth: ...your time will come. And one thing I want to add is that I have always heard all these horror stories about how painful mammograms are! Oh, please! I'd rather have a mammogram than go to the dentist.

I have already been PANCAKED as I like to call it. :thumbsup2

And I agree with Lyn. I had already thought thru my options about what would happen if they found something. I can't image DH telling me NO.
