Dh and i decide last night around 7pm to have a yard sale today. I was a lil nervous since it was last minute. Dh didnt put up the signs until 6am this morning. We put start time 8am and were set up around 7:30-7:45am. Well i told dh I hope we atleast make $100.
Turns out we made $310 and dd made $39 !!!!!

We mainly sold dd's clothes ...
tops, shorts = .50
pants and hoodies= $1
shoes .50-$1
adult jeans- $1-$2
adult shirt=.50

dd 12 sold some of her lil toys like old lil bratz dolls , several McDonald happy meal toys
she has mini stuff animals = .25 each
happy meal toys =.25 each
kids cheapy belts=.25 These are belt that come with kids sets or pants/shorts
medium stuff animals, misc lil toys = .50

2 toy strollers , folding chair, soccor ball =$2 each

she had 2 boxes one with .25 items and another with .50 items boxes were marked
$39 worth and the lil kids love getting happy meal toys(wrapped and unwrapped) for .25 each lol!

At the end of the sale day everything i wanted to sale at certain prices sold , so last few people i told them .50 each for dd's clothes and it made 2-3 women buy even more-lol! I was dreading having the yardsale but I'm glad we did because the $310 we made:banana: Plus dd made some $$$ lesson taught to her is her junk can turn onto $$$$ if she just parts with it-lol!

Larger items didnt seems to be a big hit so we will try craiglist -Entertainment center, 3 nice wooden bar stools, cabinet. I told dh those wouldnt sell because people want stuff really cheap almost free. but kids clothes are very popular.

btw- at the end after we cleaned up, dh found a huge tub full of dd's clothes and I would have easily made another $30-$50 oh well i told him at the next yard sale-lol! he didnt find that funny:rotfl:

Tip- i read grouping clothes by size so is good so I grouped clothes in sections shorts, tops, pants all in the same size. It worked compared to previous years

I also used tables for the clothes and hung up a few things towards the end.

I also price things .25, .50 $1 even amount if a total comes out to 1.75 etc they will alway get a .25 item to bump up to a $ or if its 1.25 they bump it to 1.50 very interesting

You have way better luck than I did last weekend. While it didn't turn into people wanting it to be a free sale like they did earlier this year, I still only topped off at like 30 bucks for two days.

The hardest part, is it's little things that gets overlooked online, and probably wouldn't gain much on ebay. I wish there was some place like the swap shop around here.

Congrats :cool1:

I've never had a yard sale that successful. I read when your more organized, the yard sales go better. Maybe I should take that lesson, lol.

We had a garage sale a few weeks ago,Thurs. and Fri. 9-2 and Sat. 9-12.Made $700 and Dd made $69.It was a lot of work but much more profitable than I thought it would be!

Dh and I are quiet people so doing yardsales are kinda hard because you have to interact and deal with lots of people and personalities-lol! No one tried haggling the bigger items. A few people wanted the clothes even cheaper and i just told them sorry I feel my prices are fair for that item. They still ended up buying it. I had some new sweaters with tags from khols that i got as gifts last year and year before i said $3 each because it new and tag still on, a few were annyoed but in the end i got my price and sold them. We got a good crowd and most were good about paying asking price. A few people got a 1-2 freebies if they bought a lot and didnt try lowing the price.

so if any of you have stuff to sale do it now before the x-mas holiday gets closer because then, people wont buy.

oh and our city workers go around and take down signs and posters . I saw them take one of my signs down. I guess they go around the main streets and takem them down. After the sale dh did go and take down the few sign around our house he put up:goodvibes

another tip i read late lastnight was to use bright floresant colors or stick to a certain color so people identify your signs for your yardsale. Use large black letters (dh used large thick permant marker).Dh did all of our signs on large white poster paper-lol! He did great on the large black print though.
Colors would be eye catching.

Good luck to anyone having a yardsale tomorrow or next weekend:goodvibes

Wow, you did really well with the clothes! We had an impromptu tag sale on Labor Day and I made around $100-which I was happy with, but the kids' clothes barely sold at all and they were cheap! I ended up giving away what I could to a few people and took the rest to Goodwill.

The big stuff went-that suprised me, but I had stuff cheap because we wanted some more storage room in the basement and shed. It was a lot of work  I like going to tag sales but not so much running one, lol. I used flourescent yellow poster board for the signs-they were pretty visible.
