Last minute TO DO list

We are leaving the weekend after next and I was just starting to worry I have forgotten something...

Are there any last minute things I should be doing? As in phone calls (confirm hotel, etc?) or am I just over thinking the whole thing?

What things do you do in the last week before your vacation????

I have compiled a list from the ideas here...if you have any to add please do!

To do before we leave:

Week before trip:

•Go through paperwork-double check airlines, times, & hotel info
•Pay any bills that will come due while gone
•Set up mail hold
•Make arrangements for pets
•Leave itinerary with family
•Let neighbors know about trip
•Get cash or travelers checks from bank
•Set light timers
•Clean out perishables from fridge
•Make sure all windows are locked
•Start packing items you won’t use before you leave


Few days before departure:

•Laundry
•Purchase magazines/reading material and snacks for plane/car
•Laundry
•Clean the house

Day before departure:

•Confirm flight with airline
•Laundry
•Finish packing


Day of departure:

•Unplug TV
•Pack your last minute bathroom items
•Grab your cell phone and charger
•Empty all garbage
•Make sure oven and coffee pot are off
•Turn down the hot water and turn off washer water
•Turn down thermostat/AC•Water house plants/flowers
•Verify you have all tickets and confirmation #’s packed & handy
•Lock up the house

*If you are all packed, then unpack & check again...I always do this b/c I pack early
*Go through all your paperwork-double check airlines & times, hotel info,all your itineraries are in place.
*We have pets & take them to the kennel-call & remind her.
*Make sure all our light timers are accounted for & set
*Let neighbors know about trip to keep an eye out
*Get "hold mail" card ready & check dates, Again
*Let newspaper carrier know to hold papers too!
*Make sure any bill due while we are gone is taken care of
Then I try to keep busy until we go

•Turn down the hot water tank to vacation setting and turn off washer water
•Make sure all windows are locked
•Leave itinerary with family
•Turn down thermostat/AC
•Pack a night light (for the little ones)

i unplug most of my house, i'm just always nervous if a thunder storm went over or if their were a lot of power surges


i also make sure that i pack everything and i will usually empty my bag and go through them again
