first-continue breathing, all will come together.
sit down with a pen and pad and visualize yourself (and any family members you are packing for )from head to toe to determine any cosmetics, personal hygene, hair needs, misc. products you need to take.
now are there any perscription drugs (must travel in original bottle) or otc meds you need or want to have?-gather together for your carry on bag.
gather all of your travel papers, id's, a copy of your
travel insurance policy, and your own medical cards-put them in one place that you will keep in your carry on bag.
gather only those clothes you MUST take-remember you will probably pick up a few tshirts and such that you can wear during your trip. and you can always run to one of the resort laundry rooms in a pinch (pack a couple of laundry tabs if you have them).
if traveling by air-pack a roll of quarters for the luggage carriers, get a reasonable supply of 1 or 2 dollar bills for tips.
on the home front-leave a copy of your travel itinerary with a trusted friend or family member (in case they need to contact you). have the post office hold your mail (you can pick it all up when you get back), either cancel the paper for the week or ask a neighbor to retrieve them and keep them at their house for your return. arrange for a neighbor to put out/pull in your trash cans (if you will be gone trash day), if you have pets that will stay home get a reliable person to feed, water and check in on them. if you have a home security system consider contacting them with 2 VERY TRUSTWORTHY FRIENDS to act as your contacts (make sure they have you itinerary/phone number as well as your insurance agents name and number-not to scare you, it's just better to be safe than sorry). last but not least, buy a couple of timers for some lamps in your house so that they go on and off at the times you are normaly at home.
now breathe again-anything you forget to take will simply afford you the opportunity to find one better on vacation. anything you over pack will be a lesson you will take to your next traveling experience.
take some comfy good walking shoes and enjoy your vacation-you deserve it, just look back at all the hard work you went to make it a wonderful experience
