Is it worth the $500ish that it will cost to get a cabin[to also rent cart & keep dining plan] versus the POR I had planned on?

We're a family of 5 and the idea of being cooped up in a small room with double beds & tiny trundle is making us nervous. Plus the weather in January is typically in the 70s so pool is not as important and if it's cold in the evening, we might want to hang out in our cabin/room...

But $500 is a lot of money...we could do all kinds of things with that money although we'd probably just not spend it.

Any help would be so much appreciated. I'm supposed to pay the $200 down today.

JUST HAD A THOUGHT....2 value rooms.....that would probably be the same $$ but I'd want connecting which I read can be hard....and therefore WHICH ONE? POP or ASMovies? Thanks.

personally I would stay with POR, it is a great resort whether or not you use the pools. :sunny:
You can go fishing, join in the camp fire, there is a lively bar & a great restaurant, the food court is good for quick meals or to grab a dessert to take back to the room. You can hire canoes or boats and get out on the river or hire bikes and cycle over to POFQ. :moped:
There are carriage rides through the wonderfully scenic grounds, not forgetting the boat that takes you to DTD.
I think you will have a great time at POR and can spend the $500 on other things to make your holiday extra special. :Pinkbounc

I just posted on another thread about this. I believe the 2 connecting rooms at a value is the way to go. You get TWO bathrooms and TWO tv's, sounds wonderful... *sigh*

Just be careful, because I hear connecting rooms are not 100% guaranteed, even if you request them ahead of time. As long as there are 2 adults in the room, they figure you can split up. One idea I have not seen anyone talk about is what if you tell them it will only be you with the kids? That way it will be guaranteed. Then when you get there, you tell them your spouse decided to join at the last minute...

I'm leaning towards All star Movies and the Toy Story/prefer Buzz section [dreaming I'd get all my requests]....

I would be upset if they weren't connecting.

You should stick with your plans and book POR! You won't be in the rooms so often, believe me there's so much to see and do, even when the parks are closed!!!

I agree with Julie.uk

I've been to POR in june and there's so much we didn't do, hope we can catch up in January!!!!

2 connecting rooms. I feel really good about this decision. DS will love the Buzz Building [hoping we get it]. The pool sounds nice [if weather is warm enough] and DH and I will have some good alone time [hopefully]. Plus if it rains or anything we can hang out in our large rooms and play games, etc. Some day hope to do POR and cabin....this is hopefully the first of many trips to WDW!

Great forum.

I think you made the best choice. Especially with smaller kids, they will love it. I also picked the ASMo. I like the motif better than the other All Stars and I'm hoping there will be less teenagers than the other two. I don't mind teenagers so much myself, but with two small kids, I would rather they have other small kids to hang out with.

Congrats!

I would stay 2 rooms at the All Stars!
That means 4 beds and 2 yes two bathrooms!
they say they will garentee connecting rooms for families. meaning if there are more children than adults in your party.

Here is the map of All Movies.

The Fantasia Buildings are the preferred buildings.
The All Star Movie Fantasia pool has Mickey.
It is a great place to stay .
Preschoolers love it.
It is like being in the middle of a Disney Movie Fantasyland.
All Star Movies has pop up fountains now also.
The buses are wonderful.

Bus rides are quite short from the ALL Stars according to PassPorter.com

All Star Buses-CBR buses---POPbuses--PO buses--- Contemporary
MK 20 min---- 20 min-----25 min------10 min---20 min(mono)
Epcot 10 min-- 15 min-----20 min------10 min---15 min
MGM 10 min----12 min-----15 min------15 min---20min
AK 10 min------20min-------15 min----15 min---20 min
DTD 15 min----20 min------20 min-----15 min---35 min

It only takes 10 minutes to get to Epcot,MGM and AK from All Stars.
MK is 20 min away. That's the same amount of time it takes on the monorail from the Contemporary.]

I am 55 years old and travel several times a year. I often stay at 4 star hotels.
So the deluxe resorts do not have anything special for me.
All Star is like being in the heart of the Magic and that is where I want to be.
I have visited WDW more than a dozen times with the 1st time in Oct. 1971. It was brand new. I've stayed at FW, Disney Inn, a few the of Hotels on hotel Blvd., CBR and the towers at the Contemporary. I got to see the MK from my balcony at the Contemporary and I'm happy I got to experience it once. I just prefer the All Star Resorts.
The theaming is pure Disney.
My last 4 visits have been at The All Stars and this fall when we take dd,dsil, and our grandson age 3 we are staying at the All Stars Music. I thought about AKL and even though we can well afford AKL I just wanted Alex to experience the Disney Magic :wizard: at the All Stars on his first visit.
Where else can one find Donald Duck or Mickey Mouse at the pool?
Have a great time at Disney!

I think you made an excellent decision....being able to put the kids down in 1 room and still be able to talk, watch TV or whatever is SOOO nice for the grownups. Having 2 bathrooms will be great also. Personally, although I like the moderates, I think they are only a little nicer than the values and to get 2 rooms for about the same cost as 1 moderate is an excellent deal. (a lot more bang for your buck IMHO). In January the parks close pretty early and it may well be too cool to swim, so you may wind up spending more time in your room than you might in other times of the year....and a week in 1 little room at the moderates might be kind of rough on everyone!!

I love the cabins and I think they are great for families with small kids especially, the main way to justify the added expense of staying there is that you can do a lot of meals in....and since you are doing the dining plan there would be no need for that...I would save the cabins for sometime when you do NOT have the dining plan....also we stayed there once during a cool snap in Jan and driving around in the golf carts was just miserable....the cold wind whipping in your face. It might be great if the weather was warm....but it could be pretty nippy.

I would not worry about getting connecting rooms at all (unless you will be checking in very late in the evening)....they do not want your kids unattended in a room away from you anymore than you do!!

We stayed in the cabins in January and it was great! But we also got a code that made the price around $145 per night. I don't think I'd pay much more for it.

If codes EVER come out again, try for a cabin on your next trip. They were really fun, and I'm sure your kids would love it. We had 6 people in our cabin and it was great having all of that room.
