Last minute ressies

Ok so we are taking a trip down last minute trying to go into the Fort for a few days. I go on Disney site and if I go for longer amount of days it shows available, if I go for just a few days even tho they are in those same days, it shows not available. So what is up with that. Shouldn't they let me take the days that are available or is it the norm for them to try to fill all the days those spots are available. It's just my husband and myself.
