Ok, we made very last minute ressies today for the end of September during free dining. This needs to be the budget trip of the century, so we booked ASSports...the only value available. We've never stayed at a value before...we are usually at OKW. I'm a little nervous about this resort as there doesn't seem to be as many good reports on here. Give me some good news about ASSports...????

TIA
Sammy

I can't help you but jumping on for any replies. We booked last week for Labor Day weekend as it was only value avail. Needed to keep it very budget as I am returning two days later with my kids @ Pop. Hope we here some positive reports:hippie:

Our last two trips, the kids and I stayed at ASMo and ASMu and both value resorts were just fine for us. We stayed at POR with my parents and it was more relaxing, but the All Stars have a fun atmosphere. Sorry I can't comment on ASSp directly, but I will tell you this...the 3 All Star Resorts share buses (sometimes) and the first resort to get picked up and dropped off is ASSp. One of my bosses always stays there with her family and she could afford more pricey. They just enjoy that resort. Have a great time and remember no matter where you stay you'll be at WDW!

I stayed there one night once and it was ok. Also stayed at all star movies and music and the value resorts are usually just fine...I'm sure you'll have lots of fun and enjoy the trip!

Disney should be doing a rehab on it while we are there. I am going in Sept too.

now lots of people here have complainted about it.

so I am going to try for a rehab room - now this might mean a long walk to the food court.

Honestly I don't hear alot of good things about it. I don't like the theming myself, so I would only stay there if it was my ONLY option (kind of like you). But I have heard from people that are into sports that they really like it. I have heard it is a bit run down, but they are going to start to refurbish it. I'm sure you will have fun, and most likely you won't be spending the majority of your time there, but at the parks.

I stayed there years ago with my daughter and her cheerleading squad from HS. Now, you won't find many people preferring it to a deluxe resort, but it is cute and fun and very Disney! I say any resort in WDW is better than a day at home or at work. Go with that attitude and you'll have a great time.

My hubby and I have stayed here twice. The first time, it was our first trip EVER and it fit our budget AND we love sports so we loved it here - had a great time and enjoyed the theming.

We were there again last summer and our tastes have changed, as has our budget. So when it comes down to it, we will probably not select this resort again.

HOWEVER - we did not have a BAD TIME last summer because we were at All Star Sports. We still had a BLAST! The only negative was the pool was ALWAYS packed with kids, and we could not chill out and relax.

I hope that helps. Just have fun! I'm sure you will.

I have stayed at Boardwalk, POFQ, CB and ASMu before last year when I stayed at All Star Sports. I stayed in the basketball section and it was not a long walk to the buses or food court. It was not loud as it was off season at the end of August during free dining. The buses pick up and drop off Sports first. It is clean and the room, though not large, are just right. We spend most of our time in the parks anyway.

I think you will have a great time. I would be glad to answer any specific questions you might have.

You will have a great time. It is Disney!

I have stayed at the All Star resorts and I personally love them
You really do not spend much time in your room, do for me a bed and shower was all I needed
As for noise I really did not notice any except for the 1 or 2 times I went back midday
Also liked sitting in the food court watching other people. You can usually tell if it is someones first time or if they are a Disney veteran

We stayed at All Star Sports June 12-18 and LOVED it:love: . This was our second stay at Sports last year being our first. DH and DS are huge sports fans:goodvibes . Last year we stayed in the Surfs Up section because it was preferred. This year I requested the football section and got it. There really isn't a bad location at this resort. Sports is the first drop off and pick up of the All Stars which is wonderful:thumbsup2 . The food court was good the pool wasn't over crowded however we swam mostly at night after a long day at the parks. Mousekeeping was great. They even left a few towel animals. One night we came back from the parks and mousekeeping had made an elephant out of towels and pillows on our bed. DS as well as I, thought that was the greatest thing ever!! We love it there. Hope your stay is wonderful as well!

We have stayed only in Values: AsMu and AsSports and loved it every time. Your kids (if you have kids?) will LOVE the large icons they have around and the walk to the busses isn't bad. We made ressies for POP this time in August but were one of the lucky families picked for a free upgrade to OKW..so I guess we are going to your "home" this time! If your kids have a favorite stuffed animal bring it and they mousekeepers do fun stuff with them like: either put them "looking" out the window for you to come home or last time they sat all the kids animals up on the end of the bed and turned on the Disney channel so when we came home it looked like they were watching TV...the kids loved it! You will have a great time...let us know what you think when you get back.

I wasn't who originally posted, but I had the same concerns and since you were so kind to as to say you would answer questions I thought I would ask :) .

Are the beds as comfy at the value resorts as they are at the moderate?? (we stayed at POR in Nov)

My dd and I are going in September during off season and with free dinning, what are the crowds like?? Are there still long lines at the rides??

How is the heat??

But I am like you, we will be at Disney and will have a great time.:yay:

Thanks ahead of time! Where are you staying this time?

Thanks for all the replies! I guess it's like anything else....some like the value resorts and some don't. If it's the only way I'm going to be able to do Disney this September, it's all good!!

I hope I have answered all of your questions. I have placed my answers in purple next to your questions below.

Are the beds as comfy at the value resorts as they are at the moderate?? (we stayed at POR in Nov) I thought the beds were exactly the same and after a full day at the parks you don't really notice the beds.
My dd and I are going in September during off season and with free dinning, what are the crowds like?? Are there still long lines at the rides?? Last year I went Aug. 19th - 25th. The crowds were not bad. It was hot, but you found indoor attractions to do during the hotest part of the day. Then take a shower after dinner and enjoy the extra evening hours at the parks. One night the MK was open until 1 am and we walked on and off of BTM and SM several times without a wait.
How is the heat?? It was hot. Take water bottles into the park with you. I used a hard plastic refillable one. I took flavor packets to add to the water, but the free ice water from the counter service restaurants was fine. I also filled up my refillable mug with Gatorade or Powerice (the blue flavor) from the All Star Sports food court each time I went to or from the room. The empty mug did not take up much space in my small backpack.
But I am like you, we will be at Disney and will have a great time.:yay:

Last year I went with just a friend and we left the kids and husbands at home. This year I will be going with my husband, my DS2 and my DD7 (at the time of our trip) and I will be 5 months pregnant. We will be at All Star Sports! I requested the basketball section again as I really liked it last time! My friend will also be going with her husband and DD7 and staying at All Star Sports again and she normally only stays at Wilderness Lodge so it can't be that bad! :wizard:

Thanks kdzbear!! In 2001 I went to Disney and I was 7 mos pregnant and I was huge (she weighed 9lbs 13oz) when she was born at 38 weeks of gestation. But I lived and we all had a great time. (after delivery too, but I meant at Disney):)

Anyway, thanks for answering my questions:)

Well I hope those of you going early sept is aware that the surfs up (main pool) is closed it opens sometime in sept can't remember when.

There is another pool down at the baseball section it's not a bad pool just smaller than surf's up.

If you get a room in the Football section that will put you between the pool at baseball and stadium hall (food court and bus pick up)

We are not into sports but we have stayed at sports many times 1st couple of times in building 1 surf's up it was great location but once it became a preferred building was not gonna pay extra. Once we got put down at baseball didn't care much for that but it was a bit quiter down there the best I remember.

Stayed in Football many times watch getting a room on the football playground tho that can be very noisy if there any band groups, cheerleader groups etc staying there as that is where they practice. Often starting at about 7 am and not ending till like 11pm. To avoid that you get a room facing away from the playground the building on the side that Stadium hall is on is best.

I have never stayed at ASSports. I was originally booked there for free dining in late Aug and have since switched to early Aug at another resort, but while I was still considering ASSports, these were my thoughts:

1. The only section available for my stay was preferred. I was not too thrilled with paying extra for preferred when the preferred pool would be closed for refurbishment. The thought of bulldozers and all of that was not something I wanted to pay extra for. Pools are important to DGS. I would have liked to be at another section. I would have begged for another section once we arrived. ;) DGs loves sports and while I prefer more lush surroundings of a mod, I knew that while he is young, he will think this is fun!

2. I heard there is a McDonalds across the road that you can walk to. I think it also has a sports theme. DGS would love this as an alternative to the food court. Again, I have never been there, but heard you can walk there.

3. First bus pick up and drop off.. yeah!

4. One DISer said she always requests the section that is next to ASSmusic. That way, she can cross the parking lot and use ASSmusic pool and food court.

5. You can't beat that price! You are going during a time that maybe won't be overrun with sports groups. :)

Have fun!
