Last minute reservation and borrowing issue--will this work?

I am trying to plan a last minute trip to Aulani for a few days, but I'm running into the 50% borrowing problem.

Planning to call MS tomorrow, but can someone confirm that this will work:

I have a current reservation for BWVs that has 172 current year points and 18 borrowed points. Total reservation is 190 pts (so max borrowed points is 95).

The reservation I'd like to make requires 146 points. Can I move 73 of those 172 current year points over to the new reservation and then borrow 73 for the new reservation and another 73 for the existing reservation?
Do I run the risk of losing my original reservation or can they modify without putting back into inventory?

I've been a DVC owner since 2009 and I've never moved things around so much! I'm running into problems I've never had before, LOL.

I thought the 50% borrow limit was 50% of your allotted points for the year? Not 50% of the reservation points. If 190 points is your contracted points, that seems like it will work. If your contract is for more than 190 points, you have more points available to borrow.

I have had MS modify many reservations without the risk of losing it. I believe they have X amount of time to modify without the points being released.

The 50% borrowing restriction is not "per reservation. It is per contract, per UY. So, if you don't own a contract that gets 292 or more points annually, you will not be able to do what you propose.

Unless those two reservations fall within different UYs, but that doesn't sound like it's the case here.

Since you already had to borrow points, you must be out of current UY points As they are tied up in the BWV.

With only 18 points, borrowed, you can still borrow up to 50% of each contract in your membership.

If you have more than one, then it’s 50% of each, not all of one and not the other. For example, I have 300 SSR and 175 at RIV. I am limited to 150 SSR and only 86 at RIV.

In order to book a new trip with 146 borrowed points, since you already borrowed 18, you need to own at least 325 points, since you ultimately need 164 borrowed points between both trips.

Thank you all so much for the explanation! I had no idea about the contract limitation but that makes total sense. I have three contracts all same use year that total 520 so hopefully it will work. I may also look into one-time use points so I’m not borrowing quite as many.

Don't forget that the one time use points are limited to 24 points once a year, not for each reservation. But I agree to look into it to limit borrowing. Most people would say it is only 24 points, but if you do that for 2 or 3 years in a row, it does add up.

They will probably have to put it into inventory and rebook. I’m trying to get a Vero Beach borrowing 18 points from next year so I had to cancel one night to get those 31 points back for an ocean view then try and get it. But the website isn’t working for me to borrow, so I missed out on a 1 bedroom today because of a 90 minute hold.

I was able to rebook just the ocean view.

Since I did it opposite for a previous reservation, not cancelling an ocean view first and upgrading to a 2BRM I ended up borrowing and have 4 points left in my 2020 UY because I did it that way.
