Background on me - I had a lateral release on my left knee on Dec. 7. I am renting a scooter for WDW trip that begins next week. I can walk short distances at a time but cannot stand for very long. I still have lots of swelling.

For those rides that I cannot use the normal line or FP, do I wait in the HC entrance while my party goes through the traditional line? I join them to board when they reach the front of the line? It will be at most 5 of us, and I have no trouble transferring to the rides. I simply cannot stand or walk for long periods. I don't want to give the appearance of line-jumping or dragging the whole family into the HC entrance. I have read the boards, but I wanted clarification.

Thank you for your assistance on this and the other items that everyone has been able to provide. Happy holidays DISers!

Since there is only 5 of you, you all would go together through the HC entrance. Disney's policy is 5 people plus the disabled party can go together in line.

Our group of 6 has never been asked to split up. We have a GAC don't know if that makes a difference but even when we don't have to show it, they just ask how many in group. A few times we have had a group as large as 10 and they let us stay together.

although i only went on a couple of rides, we were never asked to split up but we are a family of four. i think you will be fine.

For most attractions the Handicapped entrance is the regular line, so you will all be waiting together. In a few attractions (mostly in MK), the regular line or boarding area was not able to be made accessible. In those cases, you and up to 5 other members of your party will be routed to the accessible area. When you get to the park, look for the Guidemap for Guests with Disabilities - it lists all of the 'mobility entrances.' You can also see a list of the 'mobility access' in post # 11 of the disABILITIES FAQs thread. You can find that thread near the top of this board or follow the link in my signature.

Officially, WDW defines a party as up to 5 people plus the person with a disability (so a total of 6 people). There are some situations where the number doesn't really matter and a larger group may be allowed to stay together.
There are other places where there is limited waiting space or limited seating; in those cases, they can and do limit to a party total of 6. Examples of that are the handicapped viewing areas for parades and some shows where the CMs usually instructs that one person can sit with the person with a disability and the rest should sit in the rows ahead because each wheelchair spot has a single 'companion' seat next to it. We have run into situations where the CM didn't tell that to the first guests in and the first person in a wheelchair took the parking spot in the middle of the theater instead of going all the way across to the end of the row and the rest of their party took all the companion seats. This has happened to us most often in American Adventure in Epcot where most of the companion seats are moveable.
