Will it save me money to pay for the luggage at home when I print off the boarding passes? My in-laws are traveling with us and I'm not planning on paying their baggage fees. If, however, it saves money then I'll pay online tonight & have them reimburse me. Thanks!

I don't think there's any discount for paying luggage fees online/in advance. Northwest's website doesn't provide specific information? If you can't find it there, I'd call.

No discount for paying at home---saves a minute of fumbling with cards at the airport, that's about it.

United is instituting a higher at-airport baggage fee ($20) vs. $15 if you pay online when checking in. If the past is any guide, other carriers will soon copy.

It isn't cheaper, but it certainly will be quicker. Also if you are all on the PNR (i.e., one confirmation number) then paying all at once will be simpler. Why not have you in-laws pay for all the luggage on the return.
