So, Saturday early afternoon (we are annual passholders who live about 30 minutes from Disney) I was refreshing the FP+ screen on my app. Not surprisingly, very little was available. Then, on the Epcot page, a FP+ popped up for Illuminations. Having not seen this show in years and curious about the holiday ending, I grabbed it.
So, last minute trip to Epcot on the Saturday before Christmas, what was I doing? Well, we got to Epcot about 4PM and there was no line to get in at parking, at bag check nor into the park. The park was very manageable. We walked over to the American theater and stood right behind the ropes so we could stand and see the Candlelight Processional with CCH Pounder. It was about 4:30 and very few people were standing where we were yet the stand by line was pretty long. We had decided on the way over not to try and sit, we could see the show just fine from where we were. Other than having to try and shut out the background theme park noise, this was a perfectly fine spot to see the show. And it is still amazing! Everyone gotten wet around the eyes during Silent Night. Personally, When They Saw the Star remains my favorite part.
After the show, we walked over the Britain and did the walk up Fish and Chips and they were delicious. There was one party ahead of us and there were plenty of available tables to sit. No coats, looking out over the lagoon as darkness ascended, we had a great dinner.
I had also grabbed a FP+ for Living with the Land and we did that and then had a Boche de Noel from France that was luscious. I had been able to grab a last minute third FP+ for Mission to Mars, but when arrived the stand by line was like 5 minutes, so we really didn't need it.
By then it was approaching 9PM and we lined up for the FP+ location of the show and what a spot it was. Having not seen this show in a long time, we really enjoyed it. And the special ending was moving, had so many people tearing up and mouths agape in awe at the spectacle. For a very last minute visit to Epcot, we had a wonderful time. We were back on the road well before 10PM and the traffic wasn't too bad.
We'll see how this Saturday goes when we try the MK and the early Fantasy in the Sky. Fingers crossed.
