I have been reading all the threads here about grabbing your own luggage with a later arrival time. The family unit is having "discussions" on the best thing to do.;) I am finalizing--please--the discussions from the help here!!

So --here is our situation-

The family unit consists of 2 parents and two adult children. Arrival flight time is 8:00 PM. We are at the BC Club Level Resort. Two of us want to get right on DME and get to the BC to check in ASAP. They feel that waiting for the luggage will make us too late to check in at Club level. Two of us want to take the time to get our own luggage and then get on DME. (How long does that take??)

Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated.

So excited....today is the day!!:wave2:

Plan on at least 30 minutes for your luggage to arrive on the baggage carrousel.

Yes 30 at least is my thought.

The rest of our family is there already and they received their luggage from DME 40 minutes after they checked in ...in the middle of the day.

We went on a cruise in Feb of this year and had to claim our own luggage. we got off the plane, rode the tram-train over, got down to luggage claim, I went to the bath room and changed (coming from 0 degrees to 70's), and when I got back, he was taking the luggage off the belt. He then went and changed and we were on our way. I don't know if it was just that fast and not normal, or if it is normal, but I don't think it was too much to wait.

The thing that would make a difference to me on claiming or letting DME pick up my luggage would be is there something I need the next morning to get ready in case my luggage isn't delivered in time? If you are good to go, I would let DME get it and deliver it.

Don't forget that you need to make up your mind about getting your bags yourself before you check in at your originating (typically, home) airport. (Customs station for international guests, if that comes later.)

If you put the yellow Magical Express tags on then you will not be able to change your mind and get your bags yourself at the Orlando (MCO) carousels, for flights arriving before 10 PM.

Also, don't forget that the standard is for your bags to get to your room within 4 hours after you can. Almost always the bags get there within 3 which in your case would allow up to a little past midnight.

Put stuff (such as swimsuit and toothbrush) you will need right away, er, for the first 24 hours from arrival, in a carryon.

I personally would pick the luggage up myself and not tag it, but as established in another thread, I've had really rotten luck with the luggage portion of MDE, so pretty much any arrival past 3:00 would have me getting my own luggage based on past experience.*

*I know this is not typical, but after you've been burned a few times it's difficult to look past it.
