My DW and DS are thinking about an impromptu trip to WDW tomorrow (Friday) through Saturday - just one night. I was considering trying to just 'show up' to a resort to try and get a good rate on an unsold room. Has anyone tried this?

We have done this a couple times at WDW and have gotten a room, but it was at rack rate.

Best rate you could get at this point would be a AAA discount.

If you just show up, you will pay rack rate. If you call ahead of time, you might be able to get a discounted room some way.

If there is an AP rate out right now (which I don't have any idea about) you could call and get that if you qualify. They leave rooms empty instead of deeply discounting them day or week of the trip.

Last wednesday I got the POLY for under $300 per night as I was driving through the gate on 536 coming off of I-4. As a PP stated, if you're a pass holder or Fla resident you can do better.
