I decided to book a car rental for my trip starting in four days... I didn't have high hopes for getting a great rate.

Checking ALAMO.com the best rate worked out to about 150$ for 8 days.. (midsize after discounts before taxes)

On a hunch I tried ALAMO.CA .. there I managed to book a mid-size for 8 days (after discounts before taxes) for $90.47!

I used the same Walmart Code and discount coupon, the same pickup and return dates and times at both sites.

Tip: Always check both I guess. :)

Hi looking at getting a car from Alamo for our December trip is there somewhere I should look for codes for discounts?
Thanks in advance for your help.:)

mousesavers.com is a great website that posts public discount codes on lots of Disney stuff, including rental cars.

Code or link to source of codes would be appreciated.
Many thanks.

I always use Alamo to book my cars at MCO, but I prefer not to wait in the line inside the terminal (which you have to do if you use coupons), our preference is to walk in to the parking garage and drive away with no wait. We are usually out of the airport in under 30 minutes of arriving. That extra time is worth more to me (especially on the day of arrival) than the money I can save with a coupon - just my opinion for what it's worth.

If you are using a coupon I don't believe you can check in online. We always use coupons with our Alamo rentals and have never wait in the line inside the terminal ... while one of us is waiting for our luggage, the other goes to the Alamo counter and checks in via the Kiosks ... in 2 min paperwork is in hand and we're back to the luggage carousel before the luggage has even started coming off the plane. With luggage in hand, we go to the garage, pick up our car and are on our way out.

I Love the kiosks...use them every time and have never had a problem. It has never asked me for my coupon nor have I needed to have it in hand (they are usually internet specials though...). We do the same things as Pooh - one waits for the luggage, the other gets the car paperwork, and usually, within 25 of disembarking off the plane, we are on our way!

Quick hijack of the thread . . .

I have never rented a car and I am considering doing so in California next month.

Do I need to buy the insurance they usually sell with the rental?

Any thoughts for a newbie car renter???:goodvibes

Check with your insurance agent. If you have full coverage you may be covered under your policy for rentals. Some credit cards also offer partial coverage.

Code or link to source of codes would be appreciated.
Many thanks.

I was using the Walmart Code : 430710 and $20 off Coupon : AD1336ADK at BOTH sites when I priced. ALAMO.CA was cheaper... by a lot.

That particular coupon usually doesn't require it to be presented. It's an E-Coupon from their website. I've used similar coupons the past and never been asked to present them.

From an earlier thread

As for credit card coverage... once again - this coverage covers the damage to the rental car.. and there is some basic coverage for liability included with the rental .. but its not very high.

The credit card included coverage you're talking about does not cover 3rd party liability generally speaking... (the damage to other people's property or person) That could be extensive and it's NOT covered by most credit card protections or by policies like those from PC Financial Travel Insurance.

In some states, the minimum amount of property damage coverage required by law (and therefore what is included with your rental car) is very low.. as low as $10,000. In fact, that IS the minimum in the state of Florida and that IS what car rental companies in Florida include with their rentals. That is woefully inadequate.

Further, Body Injury Liability is totally optional in the state of Florida and in almost all cases IS NOT be included with your rental. Check with your rental car company for details.

NO credit card program that I am aware of offers 'Body Injury Liability' coverage for third parties injured by your driving. Nor does it offer Property Damage Liability for other parties.
[EDIT: Even the American Express Platinum Card only extends coverage to the rental vehicle itself -- nothing else.]

Obviously, even an accident where nobody is seriously injured could easily exceed that coverage. If you are deemed at fault and the other party has to go to the hospital even overnight, you're looking at being on the hook for as much as $15,000 in emergency care costs and probably some loss of income, pain and suffering and god knows what else. NONE of which would be covered by PC Financial's insurance or a credit card's coverage.

You should talk to your insurance agent about what happens if you get in an accident and someone sues you for a half a million dollars. They can provide the best answers...

I have full coverage.. with million dollar liability AND the full rental car coverage from State Farm. My deductible is 250$. At 25$ a day for the loss-damage waiver at the rental car counter, I'm better off financially to gamble that if I'm in an accident it will exceed 250$ in damage and just use my insurance. Have you been to a body-shop recently? You can't break a tail-light for 250$ these days.

If I REALLY wanted to protect my own coverage from an accident claim, I would use get the Collision Damage Waiver (roughly 25$ a day) from the rental company / or use the Credit Card coverage for the CDW.. and the Extra Liability Protection (between 12 and 15$ a day) from the rental company. Obviously that would easily double the cost of the rental or more... That's not worth it in my opinion.

The rental car coverage option from State Farm was 25$ for a full year... not per trip... it's more coverage and it's less money. In my case, it covers the car AND all third party liability to property OR personal injury.

If you currently do not have ANY liability insurance, to protect your assets & future income from a claim by a third party, you should absolutely purchase the Extended Protection from the rental car company and either consider the Collision damage waiver or find a credit card that will cover the rental vehicle itself.

I've also found that Budget.ca is sometimes cheaper than Budget.com. Check often and rebook if your price drops, I usually check one last time before heading to the airport.

That's a great rate. :thumbsup2 I'm now just starting to look at rental prices for December so I'll check both Canadian and U.S. rental sites when looking.

Have a great trip to WDW. Those of us left behind a just a tad bit jealous too! :sad1:

It was 90.47 + taxes and fees which brought it to 126$ ... 15.75 per day for eight days.. insanity.

They must be hurting.

I ahve a question, hopefully someone can answer it.So do you need extra insureance on top of what the rental place offers?I was just wondering if I needed to call our insurance company and get that in place?
