Last minute cancellations

WL is automatic...but.

There is simply too much anecdotal evidence that calling works to ignore. Time after time, we see posts where DISers have been on waitlist, call MS to check, and are told "Your waitlist JUST came through!"

Magic does happen -- CALL!

My anecdotal is that I have had NUMEROUS wait lists and all but ONE cleared without me EVER calling. (The one was for AKV Concerige the weekend of the Marathon...Fat chance!)

I never call and have probably cleared about 20 waitlists over the years. (One of the joys of "late booking" is that you tend to have to do this more then those of you that plan ahead!)

I'm a planner and to date have not had to use the waitlist in our 12 plus years of membership, but I must say, I'm getting lazy about that early booking. We are planning a trip for next March, and I haven't even nailed down the dates yet to make the ressie. I'm thinking I might start using the waitlist for 7 month booking windows. Up until now, we haven't really been to interested in 7 month booking.

People are still trying to keep the faith though... holding onto those reservations until the last moment shows that they have every intention of going.

I recently had my wait list filled for July (nothing big - just moved from Jambo to Kidani), and although I'm extremely happy about it, I know somewhere it means someone canceled. It's about as exciting as a heart transplant: to let someone's plans live, someone's vacation plans die

There' ONE flaw with your view on "vacation plans die" Your waitlist could have cleared just becasue more inventory was declared into DVC as a result of sales.
