last minute cancellation question

We have a bit of a problem.
My dad was just hospitalized the other day and we are not sure if he will rebound. He has been disabled for a long time and each time he gets ill, it sets him back more.
We are schedule to come home in 2 weeks on borrowed points from next year. Our use year begins September 1. So if we don't use these points, we will lose them. My mom says to go on vacation, but if it's really bad and my dad isn't going to make it this time, I feel I should be with her. It's a very hard decision to make and I'm not sure if DVC can do anything like a special exception. Any info can help.

So very sorry about your Dad. It's such a personal decision on what to do and I have real sympathy for you having to make this decision.

Although I have heard that DVC has been known to make exceptions, I'm not sure that anyone can really answer this except someone at MS. Unfortunately, the only true answer you can get is to call them first thing Monday and ask.

i'm sorry to hear about your father, from what i have read from these boards, it sounds like your aloud a one time exception. i would call ms and explain your situation , then aleast you know if you have to go the trip or you can always rent the ressies ot on the dvc rent/trade. i'm sure you wont have a problem renting, there is always someone that would like to go last minute.

You might also check into the DVC trip insurance- that would offer at least some relief if you are unable to go.

what are your dates of travel? on the dvc rent/trade board, someone is looking for a 2 bedroom / aug. 14-19, they would like the wilderness lodge, but at this point they probably would take anything if the dates matched up. and you could always tkae the money and pay cash for your next trip, wdw has alot of great rates staying at the resorts.

Just wanted to tell you how sorry I am to hear about your Dad. We just lost DH's Dad under similar circumstances. I know how hard it can and will be. You and your family are in our prayers.
