Oops, I did it again...........or rather DH did. Or maybe it is my fault, I turned the Travel Channel on this morning for the DLR show :) . Anyway, after seeing a clip on Soarin' he immediately sent the girls out of the room " to talk to mom". I'm thinking, huh, what now?? He said " why don't yo usee what's available for that 5 day stretch of off days the end of this month? I really think he's lost his mind ;), I had WL booked for June 18-21 and he had me cancel because he was "Disney'd out" after ONLY 4 trips since last June ! Well, the only deluxe with availability (AP) was BWI at $219 a night. Then POFQ comes in at $99 a night, I'm going, yeah, baby! We have NEVER stayed in a Disney Moderate. From the pictures it looks 100 times better than the HI on Irlo Bronson we wound up in last spring break (another last minute trip, before the DIS, general codes and AP's!). The photos of the property are lovely, the rooms, however, do look small. If we needed to, could we squeeze an Aero bed in there (both my girls kick like mules :sad2:) Also, how is the bus transpo to MK and EPCOT (our parks of concentration). We are already booked at WL for Columbus Day weekend (praying to the AP god for a better rate), so we don't feel the need for commando park touring. I remember our last July experience at the GF in '99, we HAD to return to the room for rest each day from the heat. Also, how does the Dragon Pool compare to the ones at the Deluxes and are there lifeguards? TIA, starting to get that old excited feeling! :rolleyes1

Just think of it as an adventure and a wonderful unexpected trip! Try not to compare it to a deluxe. Just enjoy the scenery and the atmosphere! Yes, there are lifeguards and the pools are nicely themed. You could probably squeeze an air bed in there if you need to. It might even fit under the bed for storage during the day if it's not a real high one.

Have fun!

I had an unexpected opportunity to squeeze in a trip in June, and I am a DVC member, so I had planned to use points to stay at a DVC location. Alas, they were all booked, but I noticed I could use them at POR or POFQ. No availability at FQ, but Riverside had a room, so I took it. All the way down, I thought, "Boy, after three years of staying at AKL, WL, GF, and BC, plus VWL, BWV and BCV, you'll really be disappointed with this trip."

So I was very pleasantly surprised. Yes, it's a little different than a Deluxe, but I didn't really notice much difference in the rooms. A little smaller, but not stifling. Double beds instead of queen, aren't they??? Fine for me as a solo, but not sure about your family - maybe an aero bed would be a good idea.

Honestly, I'm glad to have the option for the larger accomodations through DVC, but POR was lovely. I had the most beautiful view out to a courtyard - roses climbing on a trellis, ferns, magnolia trees in bloom, and just a glimpse of the water with a pretty wrought-iron fence. It was delightful!!!!

I had a fine time in my moderate - and will do it again if circumstances dictate!!!!

We don't come back till we have the POLY again!!

This was after our May trip to POR!!!

Like another poster said "don't compare it to a deluxe".

I really had an open mind, and it was OK, we went back in 97 but didn't remember it much, plus we were in the mansion side then.

My DH and kids complained constantly.

My main issues were...

small beds
small room
too far from the main building

otherwise it is a beautiful resort, just not right for my family of 5.

You will be surprised and happy with POFQ. It is no deluxe but there is not that much difference really. The roooms are not too small to be comfortable. I had to be reminded that the beds were not queen size. I thought they were queens. The pool is awesome and your kids will love it. It has a very relaxing atmosphere.

I'm being positive about this, we will have fun regardless. We have made so many trips that it's not like we don't know what to expect. I mean, the HI on Irlo Bronson was an absolute dump(deceptive websiste!) and we still had fun at the parks. I believe that was the first time we actually didn't leave mid day and return to the hotel (yeah right, that wasn't a Hotel :) ) . From what I have read the buses are pretty good ( that's been a major sore point for us, we hate to wait). I'm hopeful about the beds, DH is 6'2" and I pray his feet don't hang off. We may take the aero bed to be safe but it's a queen, probably really cramp the room, although one DD used it at the HI, she had the best bed of all  . I'll miss having a TS option but we won't be there at dinner time anyway, just saw where that Friday night will be WMH evening at MK, our first chance to get a wristband so far. We have always skipped them and went back to the reort. Since it's so hot now maybe we'll take advantage of the cooler evenings. Thanks everyone!

POFQ is our favorite moderate. You can't compare it to a deluxe but it is very nice. It is a quiet resort with nice theming. The pool is alot of fun for the kids and life guards are there until 10 PM I believe. I hope you have a nice time.

We went from WL concierge to POFQ last August. We have since done BCV, CR, POP, and AKL (returned today). DH continues to request POFQ. It is not like POR. The resort is smaller and more compact. The rooms were completely refurbished last year. The pool is great. It is different from a deluxe, but you will not be disappointed.

They also have the bike, surrey bike rentals and a carriage ride and the boat ride to DTD. We are staying there in Sept and cannot wait. You can walk over to the Riverside park and use the pools over there as well. Old man island, the quiet pools, etc. Since they are sister resorts you have the facilities of both resorts.

I hope that's true about the pool sharing there, when I talked to CRO I asked and was told that that was not allowed now. :( I'm looking forward to the trip and the girls are jazzed. I'm really surprised at DH, he was so adamant about not being ready to go back two weeks ago. In fact we were all so funny, at the beach saying "boy, if we were at WDW right now we'd be buring up and fighting crowds. " Of course our meals at the beach cost every bit as much as TS at WDW and I didn't get my DDE discount! We went to the river here last night for the city fireworks, kept comparing every ove to Wishes and Illuminations. I think that helped persuade him.;)
