Last Minute Air Fares

We are planing on driving but I thought I would ask about the last minute flights that some airlines offer? Does anyone have any experience with them. I only live an hour from the airport and I can book it up to a day before my trip.

Otherwise they tend to have restrictions like Fly out on Sat and back the next Monday which doesn't work well for a long vacation.
