Last DLR trip for a while… What am I going to miss?

Okay, DISers. Our Keys expire March 21st and we won’t be renewing. We have two big international trips booked this year to visit family we haven’t seen since COViD and a teenager who is far too busy on the weekends for the rest of the school year which means it just isn’t worth it for us to renew. We probably won’t get new passes again until the fall when we will try to squeeze in another year of Disney before our toddler turns 3 and needs his own ticket. I know this doesn’t sound like a long time for some, but it’s a long time for a family who has pretty much had always had passes for the last 16 years besides the COViD closure era.

So help me - what am I going to miss? I never feel overwhelmed by a DLR trip but I’m starting to feel that way when I think about everything I want to do that I won’t be able to do for awhile.

I have 4 park days planned - next Friday with just our toddler in the morning then toddler and husband in the evening. Planning to eat all the things and ride everything slow. I’ve never had the birria tacos which I understand now is a crime so I’m going to eat those for lunch.

Sunday will just be the toddler and husband again, but husband is coaching at a competition so it will likely just be the toddler and I most of the day. Our teenager will take the train up in the evening and will be with us for our last two days.

Help me narrow this down from “do all the things and eat all the things” as that won’t be possible with a toddler.

ETA: I’d love to see a parade but won’t sit and wait to hold down a spot. Is it still easy to find a good spot near IASW? Same for fireworks? I never stay for the fireworks because it’s way past the toddler’s bedtime, but I might one night this time. My husband can’t handle the Hub or Main Street because the crowds squeezing him in + explosions really trigger his PTSD but I seem to remember IASW being less crowded.

Sounds like you have an exciting year of travel ahead! And remember there’s always the SoCal ticket offers or an after hours event in case you need a quick fix.

I would say do the things that are most important/resonate for you. So maybe skip those birria tacos (sacrelidge!) in lieu of something that has that nostalgia or family memory for you. Cause once you have those it will be hard not to have or crave them. LOL

For the toddler, soak up seeing it through his eyes. Does he like the dark rides? If so and they have nostalgia for you get those in - I found there is this sweet spot with them where when they are young enough it isn’t scary, but 3-5 it can be, and then they are over them. I tend to ride them with my (adult) sister because no one else wants to ride with me.

Your plan to take it slow and just soak it all in sounds lovely - too often as AP holders we can take for granted all of it. This sounds like it will be a very special visit!

Is it weird that I already crave them even though I have never tried them? My plan was to buy Mac n cheese from the Cozy Cone for the toddler (never had this either but I’ve heard it’s also good, plus the kid size Mac n cheese in the parks are never enough food for him) and then walk over and get the tacos for me. We ALWAYS do table service for lunch and dinner with seating times 30 minutes before we know our toddler will go from cuddly care bear to hangry gremlin, but I’m going to try to wing it with a couple of lunches to try some things I haven’t tried before. We’ll see if that works out…

That makes total sense - enjoy!!!!

I haven't been in six months, and won't go for another six, when I'll activate my new Magic Key. I find myself missing certain food items that I crave (corn dogs, monte cristos - moreso before they changed them, Dole whips, ronto roasters, etc.) and just BEING there, soaking up the atmosphere. So maybe don't push it too hard. Take some time to just relax and enjoy! Soak in Main Street, New Orleans Square, Fantasyland, Pixar Pier, and Avengers Campus. :) Take lots of pictures and some video!
