Hellooo again!

I was just wondering about our last day.... I think our flight is around 6pm ish so I doubt we will really want to go into to parks. What do you normally do?

Also this may sound abit of a daft question but can we leave our luggage at the hotel and then pick it up again and get a return journey on the magical express to the airport? I had read yesterday about virgin's downtown disney check in, would this be a better?

We're planning on going to US on our first day, I thought we would try using mears- can we pre arrange what time we will want picking up with them?

Sorry i'm sure these questions have been asked loads of times.

On our last day we like to do a park. Last year we made the mistake of doing evening EMH the night before and that put some pressure on us as we got up later.

You can easily do a park. You will probably be collected by ME around 2.30 pm. You can get up, check out of the resort and take your luggage to bell services. They will give you tags (like a receipt). Just keep that with you and head off to the parks. Leave at least an hour to get back to resort. We made the mistake last time since we had arranged a late check out for 1 pm of going back to the room and sorting, packing and checking out after the park. We cut it fine and waited for a bus and it was a mad rush. But it works well if you are sorted before. Also, since we didn't have time to change and had done SPlash Mtn we stank like a swamp! Could explain the empty seats around us on the flight home ! :lmao:

To me it is more worthwhile using park tix on the last day rather than on arrival day as you still get more hours to play with. We have never done October and are used to high season so we will also experience shorter park hours and this will be a factor too.

Thanks for that.... your point about park tickets has made me remember that our tickets would have run out buy then. We're going for 17days so our 14day park ticket will be up the day before. I guess we could do some shopping in DTD or have a nosey around some hotels instead.....

I didn't realise you could have a later check out

Hello

Re the late check out, do you have to book this before you arrive, or can you do it whilst you are there? Also how much extra does it cost? :goodvibes

We have also gone to a park or to dtd, we also leave the bags in the luggage room and I put a change of clothes on the top of my case and get changed before getting on the me (we also had a splash mountain incident on the last day!). I have never used dtd check in as I didn't want to stand in the long queue/pay for it. But if I had booked with virgin holidays I would be more inclined! We checked in online at our resort the last time so just went to bag drop and missed the queue at the airport.

we always do dtd on our last day. we normally get up and get ready slowly and then check out and drop the bags at bell services and then head out to dtd for a walk/eat and a final go in disney quest and then back to the hotel, quick chnage in the toilets (in UK clothes - we normally go in january so we chnage the shorts for trousers) and then ME picks us up at about 2.30pm. Although i may look into the late check-out this time as we will now have our 5 month old DD with us, so i assume we will do things differently to normal to work around her feeds etc...

We use Virgin's DTD check in, dump the cases, have breakfast at Earl of Sandwich, then head in to a park till mid afternoon.

I've just realised we'll have a TS credit left over so I'm thinking we could go to Chef Mickeys for breakfast. Though I do like the idea of going to DTD for the morning as i'm sure i will want to look around the shops agains lol........

You are better booking it at check in. Unless they are short of rooms it won't be a problem. We actually only asked about it a few days before we left as I had originally intended checking out and leaving our luggage with them first thing in the morning. That would have worked better IMO, but probably because of my bad planning as per my previous post. I did it as the plan was to shower before we left. That didn't work either! Again, bad planning, but could have worked out fine.

It doesn't cost anything but is subject to availability.

Thanks for that, I think we might see if we can do this.

If nothing else, the late check out does give you a bit of flexibility and take the pressure off. Even if you don't use it, it won't cost you anything so you have nothing to lose.

We found that using the ME gave us just the right amount of time at the airport to check in, have a bite to eat in a non-rushed fashion and then to board the plane...

Echo what someone else said about leaving enough time to get to the resort to get the bus however - we stayed a bit too long in the MK on our last day (DS had been asleep in the stroller and woke just as we were about to leave, so we did one last ride, and then found ourselves wading through parade crowds to exit the park) and it was a real rush back to the resort... I was very stressed!

We also have a change of clothes handy, but we usually change at the airport just before checking in.

We have also used the DTD check-in... it works really well if you do the Park Fayre breakfast, as you get picked up at your resort, and the wait for check in hasn't been that long... Bonus to this is you don't have to check in at the airport so your pick up is later... Downside to this is the VERY early pickup for the breakfast (7:30am or something similar) and that if you don't do the breakfast you have to get yourselves and your luggage through downtown the the check in point which is back of Cirque - we had a nightmare dragging bags etc all the way when we did that!

How about lunch at the rainforest cafe or T-Rex and then heading back to your hotel for the ME pick up...

I am going to try a late check out this year - I always just get up and go straight to the airport last day - I am so miserable I wouldn't enjoy anything!

For those of you staying at a DVC resort (SSR & OKW) you might be less likely to get a late checkout as DVC rooms take longer to clean and as DVC members staying on points don't have daily house keeping they don't have as many housekeepers so require maximum length of time to get the rooms ready for the next guests.

I am not saying you won't but just warning you that you might not.

We have a relaxing last day, it's such a long day and find it suits us best.

Drop cases off at Virgin DTD check in, back to villa and give Joshua an early lunch, have a look around a couple of mall's last one being Florida Mall as it's closer to the airport.
Arrive at MCO mid afternoon for the flight home.

We usually pack up, putting a change of clothes and toiletries in a separate holdall, and leave our luggage either with Bell services at the hotel, or in the trunk of the car when we've checked out.

Then, depending on how much time we have, we do one or all of the following:
  • Bus to MK and
  • then monorail to Poly / Grand Floridian or boat to Wilderness Lodge for a coffee and a stroll around.
  • Mini golf at Boardwalk or WinterSummerland
  • Downtown for lunch (usually Cap'n Jacks)

The we head back to the resort for a swim / shower and to change in the pool changing rooms into our travelling clothes before heading to the airport.

It works for us :)
