Hello Hello:banana:- it's been a while since I posted (9.5 month daughter keeps us busy :cloud9:)
Has anyone had Lasik done? The 2 people I know that had it done loves it and wish they would've gotten it done sooner, but was just wanting some more opinions... Are there newer procedures out there, is there anything you wish you would've known before having it done, it doesn't hurt right (they use numbing drops???)

Thanks!!!:cool1:

I had it done 6 years ago and am thrilled with the results. 6 years later I am still 20/15 and have no adverse effects. For a month or two post surgery there can be side effects. For instance, many people (myself included) experienced "halos" at night which are pretty annoying...but they go away. I also needed reading glasses for a little while for close up, but that too went away. I LOVE not messing with glasses and contacts anymore though, especially for swimming, running and such.

Not sure about newer procedures; I'm sure they have continued to refine the process.

As for pain, I had no "pain", but the procedure can be a little uncomfortable. They do numb the eye, but there was the experience of pressure on the eyeball which is weird. But not painful. I can't say I enjoyed it, but it's not the worst thing I've ever experienced. I assume you gave birth 9 months ago....you can handle lasik. LOL.

I had mine done about 6 or 7 years ago also and love it!!! Before the surgery, I was -750 in each eye with sever astigmatism, and now, like Dave have 20/15. Wonderful!!

One thing I am finding as 40 gets farther away and 50 gets closer, my arms are getting shorter!! I need reading glasses in low light situations now, and I most definitely need them to thread a sewing machine!!!

I just picked up a $10 pair of readers at the drug store, and use them in the isolated situations needed.

I also find that I need sunglasses everytime I step outside, even in cloudy weather. Years of wearing glasses with UV protection, and all the other coatings added, make the sunglasses necessary. Once again, I just purchase cheap pairs at Wal-Mart and put them on a cord around my neck.

Unfortunately everyone is not a candidate for LASIK. I went to be evaluated for the procedure, during the initial exam they take a measurement of the thickness of the tissue of the cornea. They need to make sure there is enough tissue to do the procedure. The doctor doing the procedure got a frown on when he looked at the results, goes and gets another doctor and does it again. Both of them frown looking at the results and they both tested a third time, bad news.:scared1:

My corneas are too thin to have the procedure done, bummer. Stuck with glasses or contacts unless something better has come along since 5-6 years ago.

I had mine done 2 year and 2weeks ago and I still say it is the best money I ever spent and it is. I am still 20/20. It did not hurt at all I will agree there is a little pressure on the eye but that is it. If you are a able to get it I totally suggest it. GOOD LUCK

I had a friend that went to get evaluated several years ago and was told he wasn't a candidate because his eyes are shaped like b**bs.

I have no idea what that means, but I still laugh when I think about it.

had it done about 7 years ago, best investment of my money ever:cool1:
I also had sever astigmatism and was very close to not being able to have it done....as with clkelley I have noticed my arms getting shorter:confused3 have not figured that one out yet...haha...it didn't hurt and was seeing great by morning....my cousin came down to have hers done 3 years later and she was in sever pain (burning) most of the night, but by morning she was seeing perfect and the pain had gone away, she said it was worth it!!!! :thumbsup2...don't want to scare you but some people do experience some bad burning of the eyes for a few hours.

Every ophthamologist I know wears glasses. So I asked one why he didn't get it done. He told me he needs his eyes to make his living and the proceedure was too risky for him to take the chance. He performs hundreds of these proceedures per year, however.
