My husband want to do this so he won't have to worry about his eyes and glasses anymore. A lady whos kid I babysit for has a Lasik business can give us more the half off. I am looking for advice from people who have had it done and what they think of it before my husband does it. My mom has heard about people geting scar tissue and needing additional surgery to fix.

I had it done a year ago and LOVE IT!! I have some issue with dry eyes at times, but just keep eye drops in the purse. Not a big problem at all. I would definately research who is doing it. Dont go with someone just because they are cheaper. The Dr. experience of the DR doing it can make all the difference.

Bingo! Totally agree.

I haven't had it - but my DH had his eyes done back in Oct 2002 - not one problem at all.

He doesn't find his eyes to be dry at all...I've never seen him use eyedrops except after the initial first few months.

He keeps trying to convince me to do it - but i'm a scardy cat - I watched 3 procedures (inculding DH's) and it kinda freaked me out. (But that's just me) But I would LOVE to be able to wake up and see my alarm clock...

Definetly research it and view a couple surgeries...I'm sure you'll be happy you had it done!

I've had 2 doctors tell me to stay away from it! A Optometrist and a retinal specialist. They don't like that we don't know whats going to happen to the peoples eyes 30 years from now that have had it done.

I have had it done and love it.

However, I have a few comments.

One, what is a lasik business?

Two, this is NOT a low bid opeartion. Find a doctor you can trust and who tells you ALL the good and bad things that can happen and then make a decision. Make sure you doctor is a local and will be there for you. (Some of these ads in the paper use traveling doctors. THey come in do the surgery and leave. Not for me!) You should understand the pros and cons and have them explained to you. Simply reading the surgery release is not enough.

Your husband should be evaluated by the DOCTOR at his first meeting. If only the Lasik specialist or salesperson does the evaluation RUN!

Now, I was an excellent canidate. I had a MINIMAL vision correction. (A lot of people with my level of sight impairment don't even wear glasses!)

I'd do it again in a heartbeat. I am not really concerned about long term side effects. I did a lot of research and talked a long time to both my eye doctor and the one who did the surgery. (My original eye doctor did not do lasik, her practice was mainly senior citizens and her statement was if you don't do enought to be good at it, don't do it.! ) I did change to a doctor who does a good amount of these, but it is not his sole practice.

My Grandfather had one of the FIRST cateract operations ever. IT was a two day event and he spent a week in the hospital. Look at that surgery now. LOL!

I had lasik done 4 1/2 years ago, and my eyes are still 20/20.

I had very bad vision, and couldn't function without the use of glasses or contact lenses. Immediately after the surgery, I could see perfectly without my glasses. For someone like me that has had glasses since the second grade, it was a miracle!

Even now, 4 1/2 years later, I am sometimes overwhelmed by the fact that after so many decades of glasses and contacts, I can see perfectly without them!

I highly recommend Lasik to anyone interested in it, however, I completely agree with CarolA about making sure you find the most highly qualified doctor to perform the surgery. Saving money shouldn't be the main reason you choose one doctor over the other. I would also recommend taking the mild sedative! I didn't take one, but would have done much better if I had been totally relaxed!
