I'm thinking of going to Las Vegas some time this year. I was wondering has anyone used their points to stay in Vegas?. If so, where did you stay? Was it worth the points? :confused3 Thanks!

Vegas hotels are so cheap, it seems that unless it were your only option, it would be a poor use of points.

We weren't in DVC yet, but in April we stayed at Club de Soliel, which was very nice, I have seen if offered for the exchange program with DVC, but going from the strip back on E Tropicana is horrible from 4:00 pm on. It took us 2 hours to go 4 miles a couple of times! You don't want to have to cross Hwy 15 from the strip if you can avoid it.

They were offering tours of the new Tahiti club, which looks really nice and is also available, but I am not sure where it is. :confused3

Last June we stayed at the MGM Grand for under $100 a night. It was a lovely hotel and we enjoyed the lazy river pool. The location, in the center of the strip was perfect! I feel the use of points is an expensive way to go and your not in the middle of things (which I guess is a plus or minus, depending on how you look at it!).

From what I was told from the reservation people @ Disney when I called to inquire about Vegas was that we would have to use a week of points because it was part of the exchange program with DVC's partners.
I think will will save our points when we go in June...a week in Vegas could be dangerous...

Note that the days of Vegas being a cheap destination are numbered. While you can still sometimes get a deal in the off seasons, it's much, much harder than it has been in the past.

We own at Polo Towers which is right in the center of the Strip by Caesars and Bellagio. Very nice.

If you (or anyone else) is interested in a trade or want to ask some questions about it, please feel free to PM me.

Thats not really true anymore. Vegas is starting to get pricey. There are still Bargains, but not like they used to be. In Feb, Mar and April, the cheapest Weekday rooms per LVA are 39-49 a night. Weekend are 69. And these aren't really even great hotels. Paris for instance is going for $179-$249 a night on Weekends. It really depends on the quality of rooms.

As much as I love Vegas, the corporations are killing the bargains that used to be had. There are still some good ones... The Ellis Island Steak Dinner, The Arizonia Charlies Ham and Eggs, the Golden Gate 99 cent Shrimp COcktail, The Casbar at the Sahara, the Mirage Buffet (Great PRICE for what you get.), The free picture at the Imperial Palace (although I hear that is going away, etc. But it is no where near what it used to be, especially in room value. Basically most Casinos aren't taking food and rooms as loss leaders anymore.

But I digress, if you want to stay in nicer rooms then the timeshare is a good choice.

Echo that.

Yes, I'm planning a Vegas getaway right now. Everybody says Vegas is so cheap. WHERE? WHEN? Feb. and June are cheapest right now. March, April and May are crazy expensive for the dates we can go. The Sahara for $100+/night during the week. The really nice hotels are $300-$400/night during the week too. I've checked the regular web sites like Vegas.com and also the hotel's own websites. They are all expensive. Thought we could do Vegas for under $1,000. Nope. Not yet anyway. Cheapest airfare I've come across is still more that $250 pp rt. But I'm still plugging away each day trying to find a good deal.

You have to keep in mind that Vegas hosts a lot of big conventions. When a big convention is in town, the prices skyrocket. Check out the convention schedule on http://www.a2zlasvegas.com
If you visit Sun through Thursday on a non-convention week, you'll find tons of good rates at the good resorts. Also, visit each hotel's website and sign up for the mailing list. You'll start getting emails for great rates as well.

Also keep in mind that the hotels usually post promotional rates on their websites only a few months in advance at a time. You probably won't see reduces rates yet during the summer months. You can always book a room now and pay the one night deposit. Then you can cancel/rebook later when the rates drop. We always do the same with car rentals too. We'll book now, then check the rates again a day or 2 before we leave. We usually end up getting our intermediate rental for about $14 per day.

Las Vegas Advisor is probably the best source on Room info, which is what I based my info on. They are reporting that the sub $40 room on or near the strip is pretty much a thing of the past unless you gamble heavily at the same resort. Vegas really is not a cheap vacation anymore. Almost wish the mob still ran it. It was safer and cheaper... Just don't get caught cheating. :scared:

I also agree with posters saying that Vegas is not what it used to be - my DH & I could go on a 4 day/3night trip - Fri - Mon & not pay too much for the Flamingo - meals were reasonable - drinks mostly free while gambling. Over the past year or 2, it seems especially since they opened the Wynn - it's outrageous! My husband was there 2 weeks ago on business & paid $7 for a beer at Mandalay Bay. The last time we were there, 3 or 4 summers ago, paid $90/night at the Palms - NOW - $350/night on the weekend.

I love VEGAS & am so bummed that it got expensive - since we don't gamble alot - it was a great inexpensive getaway. NO MORE!

Well if you want to go cheap, the resell on timeshares for vegas is terrible. You can get 1 week 2BR at Polo for under $5,000 on ebay... and I mean buy, not rent. I have seen them pretty cheap. Mine is bi annual... we bought as a special promotion with the intention of upgrading to a full... but every other year for vegas works well. One good thing on Vegas is it is RED 52, like Disney, so trading in Interval is pretty easy.

Thank you all for the great info! My boss owns at Polo Towers as well, but I was wondering if it was worth using DVC, and as I thought it is not. I'll save them for another trip. Thank you all again!
