what age kids? I'm 26 and the first time I went to Vegas was when I was 17 and the only thing that I could really do as far as "fun" went was play the games at the midway inside Circus Circus. I'm sure that there's other stuff to do but I just know that I was totally bummed that I couldn't go into the casino's or anything. It was a fun trip but I think at that age I'd rather have gone to WDW or Disneyland or something like that that was more, young child friendly.

Hello Lucy :wave:

Haven't seen you around for a little while, good to see you back :) Haven't been to either but both sound great!

hi

i dont get on as much since we got back as i have taken a ..... wait for it....

job arghhhhhhhhhhhh

but its nice to get on when im off.

my kids are 10 and 6 but we would really only be hitting las vegas for the wedding then going to california (road trip). although i would like to see where csi is set as im a real saddo.

although we all loved wdw even my kids want to go somewhere else this year. we were settled on canada but like i say this wedding my have made our minds up for us. unless we leave the kids at home :earboy2: and take a family hol later in the year. i would love to hit the casinos and nightclubs.

just throwing ideas around at the mo.

other ideas from my family were:-

dd 10 wants to go to china
dd 6 wants to go somehwere sunny with a pool
dh 29 works away so is happy to stay at home
me 28 organizer and holiday bringer togetherer. just wants a nice holiday

southern cali isnt perticularly impressive. i hear san diego is nice but LA is a hole. been there a few times and it wasnt very nice at all. northern cali is supposed to be wonderful. san fran etc. the lovely nappa valley etc.

and vegas is very much 21 and over. the kids probably wont even be allowed into the casinos or the bars unfortunatly.

Boo to Jobs :(

Hugs tonights potentially winning lottery ticket ;)

oh but if i do have to take the childs to vegas where would be the best place to stay with them. has anyone else gone with said childs. it would only be for a night or two until said wedding was done. then onto the road trip. hehe. or am i making huge mistake?

Been to vegas LA and San Francisco and enjoyed San Fran best!! Only stayed in Vegas for 4 days but that was long enough to see everything! Can't say there is a lot for kids though - just the usual games arcades and a huge M&M's store! We did not even gamble a $ when there just spent the time going around the hotels looking at the different themes!! Stayed at treasure island which is at the top of the strip but all the hotels are pretty much the same standard! Scenic Airlines are great for tours of the Grand Canyon.

Stayed in LA for 3 days - it was OK - Disneyland was the best part! Think you should go for the road trip experience you will have a great time!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

...couldn't help hop into this discussion (either though I'm from NEW Jersey, not the original Jersey in the UK)

At one time, Vegas & kids was a big no-no, now it's totally changed. I took my family (daughters age 3 and 5) to Vegas recently and they loved it!!

Here are the top highlights for kids:

* stayed off-strip at Hyatt Lake Las Vegas (only Vegas hotel with beach...fabulous!)...plus the pool is spectacular with water slide etc...
* visited M&M store at lower strip
* Mandalay Bay has an undersea adventure tour where kids can "pet" stingrays and look at sharks etc... - kids loved it!
* gondola ride atthe Venetian (loved it)
* at Caesar's Palace there is a "statue show" that adults find corny, but my 5 year old wanted to see over and over....it runs every 30 min I think...this was her favorite thing in Vegas!
* the dancing waters at Bellagio...my 3 year old's favorite thing!
* the volcano erupting at the Mirage and the "Garden of Siegfried & Roy - I think the Gardens are still there...you can feed dolphins & see white tigers!
* the amusement park (indoor) at Circus Circus (lots of kiddie rides even though the hotel is older, somewhat run down).

The key for us was to do the hotel pool/beach for the first part of the day, then as we drove in to the Strip mid-afternoon (40 min ride) the kids slept in the car, and re-charged as we then went for a walk along the strip (but don't try to do too much....see only a small chunk of the strip at a time with kids...pick your hotels etc...to visit in advance).

Enjoy!

Part 2 here from Jersey Shark....

A few comments about SoCal (Southern California)....a great spot to visit...don't know how a trip there from our British friends could go awry...
and I wouldn't call LA a "hole" as that's a gross mischaracterization.

Top touristy things in the area are as follows

* Beverly Hills/Bel Air/Rodeo Drive - a must see
* Sunset Strip/Hollywood etc...
* Santa Monica Pier and Third Street Promenade
* Marina del Ray & Venice Beach
* Newport Beach, Balboa Island and further down the Orange County coast...Laguna Beach
* Palm Springs area

For more info, send an e-mail to me!

Have a good trip!

ps the m&m thing sounds cool (not just for kids)

I love Vegas and can't wait to go back. Although it is adult orientated there are things to do with kids. We stayed in the New York New York hotel which I would recommend if you have kids. They have a great rollercoaster that goes through the hotel and they have a huge amusement arcade. There is also some rides behind the MGM hotel which is opposite the NYNY. As some one has mentioned there is a great amusement park in Circus Circus. The fountains and statues in the mall at Ceasers Palace move and tell stories which are fun. Plus the ships outside Treasure Island go into battle every night. The Venetian has a Tussauds wax works to look around as well. Also at the top of the strip is a wet and wild water park which we didn't go in but plan to on our next visit. Your 10 year old might enjoy the indoor sky dive centre which is just off the strip. Basically you float over a giant fan!! I loved doing that!!

We visited San Diego on the trip as well and we loved the zoo and wild animal park there. We visited the San Diego sea world as well which we also loved.

thanks dana

ill keep checking in and let you you whats going on with this trip.
