Thinking of booking our 2007 holiday to Las Vegas. Can any of you share your experiences / tips. It will be just the two of us this time - celebrating our 25th Wedding anniversary. There are so many great hotels to choose from!!
Is it advisable to have a car whilst there???
Anyone done a twin centre holiday Las Vegas + ????
So many questions!!!!! I think that this holiday is going to take as much planning as going to Disney.

Thanks for any answers.

We did a trip with Virgin - 3 nights new york, 4 nights vegas, 7 nights orlando. It was a great trip. We stayed at Circus Circus as this was what we could afford in our budget, it was a bit too far down the strip for us. If i had the money i would stay at the Venitian or Bellagio.

Any specific questions ask away or pm me. :)

We are doing a trip this July/August.

4 nights in New York, 4 nights in San Francisco, 3 nights in California, 4 nights in Las Vegas and 9 days in Hawaii.

Whilst in LV we are staying at the Bellagio.

Snap!! We are staying there beginning of July :) Haven't been to LV since 1995 so will be interesting to see how it has changed.

I'm really looking forward to it Claire. I've never been, so I'm very excited. Trying to find nice wedding chapels in LV too.

As for hiring a car yes it could be useful especially if you want to venture out to the Grand canyon and stay there for a night or two. If you want a good combo then San Francisco and Las Vegas may be good for you. We love San Francisco it is such a great city, so much to see and do.

We have done Las Vegas + New York, for my 30th birthday, and it was a fantastic trip.

We didn't hire a car - if you don't mind walking, you can walk up and down The Strip quite easily, it's very flat, and obviously there is so much to see!

We did a helicopter trip out to the Grand Canyon, but obviously, if you wanted a couple of nights there, you would have to hire a car.

There are loads of hotel choices. We went at Superbowl weekend when apparently everyone goes to LV just to bet on the game! It was packed, and we couldn't get in any of our first choice hotels, but we stayed at The Mirage which was really nice, and in a very good spot just opposite the Venetian.

Depending on when you go, there are loads of deals to be had - you can sign up to receive them from the hotel websites. One piece of advice I would give is that there is so much to do and see that you probably the least awake time in the hotel you stay at, and more time in the others!

The Wynn is supposed to be a very special hotel - it wasn't open when we went, but I've heard excellent reports about it from friends who have been.

Other than that the Venetian and the Bellagio are beautiful - but like lots of hotels in LV, they are absolutely massive and very disorientating inside.

We flew back to NY for our last few days which was great because it broke up the trip home nicely and there are plenty of direct flights between the two.

Good luck with your planning, and let us know what you decide.

I would buy the "Unoffical Guide to las Vegas" this is a great guide book. It gives you all the dates for the big conferences - so you know when to avoid going.
We used taxi`s the 9 days we were there - very handy - we probably spent $200 on them.
We loved staying at the Paris as you overlook the Bellagio and we had a superb view of the fountains. The Paris has a very good buffet - in fact Las Vegas is known for its fabulous buffets.
I priced up a stay at the new Wynn hotel - this is the guy who built the Bellagio - I think for two of us for seven days it was £1500 - very good with flights included.
Enjoy the planning!

Dad and I are off to Las Vegas tomorrow as part of a tour that starts off at San Francisco - three nights there, then 2 nights in Oakhurst, 3 nights in Las Vegas (at the Stardust) and 2 nights in Long Beach.

If there's anything specific you want me to look at let me know, but be quick we are leaving at 9:30 tomorrow (Thursday)

Julie it's our silver next year tooo & we're thinking about Vegas.

like you say theres lots to plan

my favorite hotel in vegas is the Venetian - all rooms are suites.

My second choice would be the Four Seasons, but it's way down at the end of the strip. Not as well placed.

Thanks so much for all your handy tips!!!

I think that we will definatley try to do LV and visit a couple of other places like suggested perhaps New York and San Francisco.

How long would you recommend a stay at LV - I'm wondering if 4 days would be enough especially if we wanted to do the Grand Canyon Helicopter trip for one of the days! Is it best to book these trips / any shows before you go - I'm wondering about availibilty??

4 days is plenty..
you should try to book your evening shows in advance (you can order the tickets by credit card)....the good shows are usually completely sold out, so if you don't get the tickets in advance you won't get in..

if you liked cirque de soleil in orlando (if you've been to it) then you might consider one of the two cirque shows in vegas: Mystere and O......we liked Mystere better than O (but we liked the one in orlando best of all 3)..

blue man group is usually performing there....they're very good..

also there's a great show...very entertaining, but for the life of me i can't remember the name...i'll see if i can find it....it's at the MGM....there's a singer who's at the center of the show, but there are lots of special effects as well.......hmm...maybe that's part of the name....i'll have to go find it..
we had great seats....right up against the stage, with the guy sweating right over us.....the women at the table next to us were clearly fans (they knew EVERY word he was singing) and they nearly passed out when he walked on their table....

my daughter was not quite so thrilled when he kissed her (considering he's much closer to my age than hers) but those women were ready to kidnap her just because she'd been touched by their apparent god

anyway....it really was very entertaining and very las vegas....

We did Las Vegas and San Francisco as a twin centre - stayed at the Luxor and the Holiday Inn Express Fishermans Wharf. The Luxor is a brilliant hotel but at the top end of the Strip near the airport - if we ever went again we would try and stay more in the middle of the Strip. Despite all the walking, we had a great time, especially when we discovered the monorail system (apparently there's more track now). The thing is when you are walking, you end up having to go into some of the hotels sometimes as the pavement seems to lead up to the foyers of the hotels, and it takes forever to find out where the exit is to continue up or down the Strip (well it did us anyway!). still that was over 3 years ago so things will have definitely changed since!

I spent alot of time looking for hotel prices for my parents a year or so back. If you are spnding all your time in LV? Why dont you spend the weekend in a standard hotel but maybe move to a posh one during the week M-W when some excellent bargains are there to be found.

Switching hotels mid-stay sounds a good idea!! Would you recommend booking the holiday independantly over the internet. Booking a flight then booking hotels etc!! What about a two centre holiday - has anyone got any good tips or Holiday agents they have used to organize it????

I booked all of our accomodation, flights etc myself. I booked the flights first and then the accommodation.

I was getting some serious dollar hotels such as the Paris/Mirage/Bellagio for affordable prices, but i cannot remember the sites. I say book your flights and build everything around that.

I am waiting to visit LV but must wait till the girls wont be coming with us. Only 13 or so years to go ;-)
