Hi, I have a strange question [that I have done a search for on these boards, and have not found an answer.]

IF we were to fly into LAX [and then shuttle to Anaheim], and then in a few days grab a bus into Vegas, to stay for the Phantom of the Opera presentation (1 or 2 nights max.) how would you go about it....

1.) Would you prefer going from Anaheim into Vegas? Or Vegas into Anaheim? Both trips are equally long, of course, but I do wonder about time frame, etc., for a 7 pm show in Vegas, and for next day travel.
2.) Which bus line or tour would you take?
3.) Which hotel would you stay at? It would need to be far less $$$$ than the Venetian, but still close enough to walk or take a cheap cab or shuttle to the venetian.
4.) IS it hard to get to the Las Vegas airport from the strip? (South strip.) I have heard it is not.

I ask all of these questions as we plan on using air miles in Sept. or Oct. or Nov. to be able to fly from Canada into LAX or into Vegas, and then we can plan our return flight for whatever city our last stop is.

Any help is much appreciated!!! We have a 5 day plan on what we 'must' see in Anaheim (Disneyland, and CAP) LOL but I have an 11 year old child who would just LOVE to see the Phantom of the Opera in Vegas. It's my husband's and my 20th anniversary [of dating] this March, [soon to be 16 years of marriage], and it's my husband's 40th birthday soon, so I am thinking of adding this Phantom of the Opera twist to the much anticipated trip to Disneyland, if it all works out.

Thanks so much, everyone, for reading this far, and thank you for any tips you can offer!!! :)

I will be keeping a close eye on this thread.

LOVE Phantom in Vegas! We know a cast member, and were fortunate enough to get a backstage tour, etc after the show. WOW! If I were you, I'd not risk the traffic going from Anaheim to Vegas. Orange County traffic can be miserable, as well as traffic headed up the 15 freeway to Vegas, unless you left very early in the morning. I'd do Vegas then Anaheim, if ya can. Or head up to Vegas the day before the show. Cabs are easy to get from the airport in Vegas to the Strip for around $20. A good center Strip location is Harrah's- reasonable prices, walking distance to everything including the Venetian. Imperial Palace is also right there and might have cheap rates too. No need to pay Venetian prices! It's pretty but frankly you won't be in the room that much.

Sometimes you can also get cheap flights especially on Southwest going from LA or OC to Vegas! And it's a super short flight, just an hour or thereabouts.

And congrats on the 20 years!! DH and I celebrate 20 years of dating in May and 16 years of marriage in August too.

I would suggest flying to save time and possibly money. Orange County has quite possibly the best airport in Southern California IMHO and they have very cheap flights from Vegas via Southwest. Does your departure airport fly into Las Vegas? Most do.

Here's how I'd do it. Skip LAX altogether. Fly to Vegas and take an overnight layover. The airport is practically on the strip. Take a hotel shuttle to the Venetian and get yourself some tickets then stroll to a cheaper hotel near the old vegas stuff. Take an airport shuttle from your hotel to the airport and take your connecting flight to Orange County. From there you can take the Disneyland shuttle your Disneyland area hotel and start your Disney vacation.

Ta Daaaa!!!

i have done anaheim to vegas - using the lux liner - you can just choose the one way bus ride if you are not cocming back to anaheim.

it leaves around 9:00am from yout hotel and gets you into vegas just before 2pm.

I saw Phantom in Vegas and got the cheaper tickets since we had spent so much on our Blue Man Group tickets. If you can afford to make sure you get a decent distance to the stage. We could barely see the facial expressions at all. It was still good but I really wish that I had splurged a bit more to get closer. We were in the first row of the balcony.

Thanks, Quest4fun, but I looked up our flights points needed and it's more points to fly from or to Vegas/LAX than it is to fly from Alberta to LAX or Alberta to Vegas... (they don't allow us to consider it as a connecting flight.) I am able to book a flight to one place, and then home from another place using our air miles, I think. And if we save on the shuttle from LAX into Vegas that $$$ could be put toward our bus from Vegas into Anaheim, so it could work out if we head to Vegas first, then take the bus from Vegas into Anaheim.

Thanks, Silly Little Pixie, for all of your tips! :) CONGRATS on your 20th/16th, too! :) I will look up the hotels you suggested, to see. I just think that for our 11 child who loves the Phantom but who has never seen a live presentation before other than town plays, he will so impressed. I think the day before the show sounds about right.

Thank you for the tips! I'm happy to know it's such a good show.

Thanks, this is the bus I was thinking of looking at - I'm glad to know it's good. :)

Gold Coast Tours out of Brea California have some great prices and shuttle from Vegas to Orange County.

I just booked a $78 (CND $) flight from Vegas to SNA for December 2008! :thumbsup2 What a bargain!!!!!!

Phanton of the Opera will be touring into Orange County this month at the Orange County Performing Arts Center (I already have my tickets!). I forgot the EXACT dates, but I wanna say it's mid-March until late April.

....If you want to see the whole show, rather than the abridged Vegas version.

I am going to move this over to the Vegas board, where you can get even more good info :)

Thank you everyone, so much, for all of your help... it looks like in the end, it would take away so much for us ($$$, and time wise) so I think this time we will stay around the Disneyland area, but thank you for all of your input, this will still be valuable info. for us for another time, and for others, as well, I imagine.

I'd LOVE to see the full version (have seen it when it was in Calgary a number of years ago, on tour) but we won't be able to be in the area at that time. Rats!!
