Las Vegas- Kid Friendly????

Las Vegas is no longer marketing itself to families. Families go, many have a good time. There are things families can do.

I wouldn't call Las Vegas kid friendly. Hotels generally charge if you have more then 2 adults in a hotel room. Many (most?) Vegas hotels charge extra for more then 2 in a room, even for kids. Some hotels even charge if the 3rd person is an infant. Bellagio only allows kids under 18 in the hotel under limited circumstances.http://www.bellagio.com/under18policy/

The theme park behind the MGM is ancient history. Star Trek Experience is closed. The pirate show at TI is now adult themed. You pay one price at theme parks like Disney. You pay every time you ride each attraction in Vegas. Cirque shows aren't cheap. Admission charges for roller coasters, arcades etc. add up quick. Kids eat free promotions aren't that common. Adult entertainment is prevalent.

Again there are hotels that work for kids. There are activities a family can do. BUT I wouldn't say Vegas is kid friendly.

My husband and I love Vegas when we go alone. A couple of years ago we took our older kids, then 12 and 14. We aren't super conservative, and the kids had fun and ask to go back. But never again.

They still joke about the guys on the streets with the cards, and it was sooo expensive. We didn't really think about how much more it cost to take kids before we left, but since kids don't spend time in the casinos, we had to entertain them with day trips to the Grand Canyon, shows, museums, shopping...it all added up.

We had originally planned to stay in Vegas for 3 days and then spend 3 to 4 days at Disneyland. I wish we would have stuck with our original plan.

I'm sure with planning it could have been done cheaper, but we seriously could have bought a car for what that vacation cost us.

I've never been, buy my husband has a few times. All of the reasons you list above is why he said "no way" to them ever going. I'd like to get there sometime with just DH.

I went once when I was 16 with my mom. We had an AMAZING time! The way I would judge it is, do you let your children watch R rated movies? If not I wouldn't take them to vegas. Yes there is alcohol around (Who cares? Its not like kids could get served anyways) and yes people hand try to hand you cards on the street... But again, not a big deal? We just kept walking. I wouldn't take young kids there, mainly because there isn't enough to do. We mostly shopped, ate, hung out at the pool and toured all the hotels. I believe we were there for 4 nights and that was perfect.

IMO Vegas is not for children. As much as I love going, my daughter won't be there until then day before she turns 21.

If you do take the kids, I don't find the strip after midnight to be a place to have children the age you are talking about. I did see that last week. Not good.

Also, the amount of people pushing strollers thru the smokey casinos late at night is appalling.
