Hi fellow Dis'ers :wave2: I hope this question is okay to post on this forum, but here goes: I am planning to take my 23 yr. old daughter to Las Vegas in June-her first trip, my second. I am trying to decide where to stay. I've kind of narrowed it down to Paris, Planet Hollywood, Bellagio, Mirage, or Treasure Island. I definitely want to be in the center of the strip. For anyone out there who's versed in Vegas, can you recommend one of these (or another) that fits this description: nice (not dated) rooms, safe (for 2 ladies travelling alone), cost in the $100-$200+ range (under $300). Most important of these is room quality. I mainly don't want a room with worn carpet, bedding, furniture. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure what Vegas runs for the month of June. I really like Paris a lot and its moderately priced usually. Bellagio is magnificent but pricey usually. Mirage is just eh to me. We stayed there once over new years and I wasn't impressed. I stayed at Aladdin (now planet Hollywood) and thought the location was great and really liked the property too. Treasure Island would be last on that list just because the rooms tend to be smaller and the location is away from the others you listed which were prime location spots.

My suggestion is to price the above and see where they all fall out. Have fun planning. Vegas is such a fun place!

For location Paris or Bellagio. Bellagio is spendy - but oh so nice!!

I stayed at the Flamingo in April 07. It screamed old school casino, but the location was fabulous!

We stayed at PARIS and absolutely LOVED it. Centrally located right on the strip and having been to Paris, France....walking around the Paris Hotel in Vegas...well, it is so close to real thing. The restaurants are awesome. The rooms are wonderful. Yes, Bellagio is FABULOUS but pricey. We walked in and out of quite a few of the hotels while we were there. I booked this trip through AAA and at the time had never been to Vegas and the travel agent booked us into Paris as she had recently stayed there and loved it.

On our 2nd trip, we also at the RIO. We wanted all suites for our rooms because we had so many family and friends going to Vegas. Loved Rio but HATED the fact it was OFF the strip. Will not stay there again. Rooms were H U G E and the restaurants, room service, hotel staff all wonderful, we just hated commuting via shuttle back and forth to the strip. BTW: we saw Penn & Teller at the RIO and they were hysterical.

We stayed at the Rio as well and didn't mind it being slightly off the strip. The room prices were incredible there.

Treasure Island would fit your price range - I think I paid $89 a night last time I was there. Its a small casino though ...... and kind of "boring." The rooms though are clean .........

I would like to stay at Paris, Venetian or Mirage next time I go. Problem is - that $89 rate is too good to pass up!

Hello!

Of the four you mentioned, I would probably pick Paris or Planet Hollywood. I personally loved Bill's, but it is not fancy.

As far as safety, as long as you stick to the main drag, you should be relatively safe. Once you get to either end of the Strip, it can probably get a bit more dicey, especially up by the Stratosphere.

I hope you have a great trip!

I have stayed at all the hotels you mention, except the Mirage. If you can get Bellagio at a decent rate, that would be my first choice. Be sure to go to all the websites of the hotels and register for their e-mail promotions. You may get a great offer for Bellagio in June. I stayed in a 1,500 square foot Bellagio suite for $299 (Labor Day 2006).

My second choice would be Paris. I love the atmosphere of this hotel and it's location is perfect (like Bellagio).

Have fun!

Of the places that you mentioned, I have stayed at the Bellagio and it was really nice. I would definitely stay there again. For location in the middle of the strip, I have also stayed at Bally's, right across the street from Bellagio. Nice, basic rooms, but very clean. We had a view of the Eiffel tower at the Paris resort from our window. And then of course for fun, but farther down the strip, we stayed at Excalibur. Typical Vegas themed, but still the rooms were nice and clean. It was just a longer walk to everything.

Have fun wherever you stay!!!!

I will agree on the room prices for the RIO and I believe it is indeed because the RIO is OFF the strip...... but sheesh every single time we went outside to grab the shuttle the line was soooo long. Then after a long day over on the strip, the return line was just as long. We had fabulous views of the strip all lit up at night out our windows. We were in the front of the RIO about 25 floors high. The family that had the rooms across the hall from us had amazing views of the mountains. Like I said great hotel but staying off the strip is not for me.

From the RIO Suites website:
Shuttle service to the Strip: Yes. Picks up at Harrah's. No scheduled pick-up times (average wait about 30 minutes). Departs the Rio. No scheduled departure times. Hours 10 a.m. to midnight Sun.-Thurs.; 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. Friday and Saturday.

Vegas" and "safe" can't be in the same sentence.

I wouldn't wander around downtown, but the Strip is certainly safe. Well, except for the casinos taking your money!

We stayed at Mandalay Bay and I loved it!!! Although it is not in the center of the strip; it is actually at the very end... Or the very beginning depending on how you look at it ;) There are free shuttles that will get you farther down the strip and we never waited too long. The view from our room was amazing. We could see all the way down the strip. The rooms are very nice; the bed was wonderful and I could have lived in the bathroom. They have a nice oversized tub and a separate shower. I also liked that it wasn't overly 'themed'. It was fun to visit the more themed hotels but I wanted to stay somewhere more low key. As for safety we had no problems. We stayed on the stip the whole time except for our visit to Red Rock and Hoover Dam. I even wandered by myself during the day while my DH was at a conference. Have fun!!
