Las Vegas Help....

Hi Guys,

Dont know if this is the right place for this, but I need abit of help! (Keep jokes to yourself haha )

Me and 5 of my mates aged 21-27 are looking into the possibility of a 'lads holiday' to Las Vegas next Novemeber, but we wanna do it as cheap as possible without staying off the strip. Were only planning on going for 10 days, but was wondering if anyone had any advice on :-

Good hotel deals, good flight deals and also good things to do while we are there!

A couple of the lads still need some convincing, as they dont know if they could afford it and would rather do a week in Malia, Greece in the summer, but im trying to convince them otherwise! So any help appreciated!

Vegas is GREAT! Your friends will love it! Have spent two separate weeks there, over the past three years, once in December (where we experienced their first snow for 40 years ) and June, which was gorgeous and hot (about 30 each day).

I can't help with flights as we have booked packages each time (the second time we got Virgin flights and hotel via Expedia for a lot cheaper than booking both with Virgin direct, if that helps). Both times we have stayed at the Luxor, which we really liked - its a bit up one end of the strip, but is joined to quite a few other hotels so makes getting around very easy. I think its one of the cheaper hotels on the strip. If you want to stay right in the centre my brother (aged 28) stayed in the Imperial Palace, which is fairly cheap- its right opposite Caesars Palace. It doesn't have the theming of the other hotels, but he says the rooms were clean and a good size, and he couldn't beat the location - he would definitely stay there again (he's a bit of an all nighter clubber / gambler so staying centre of the strip worked much better for him, than it would for me! I liek a meal and bed by 10pm!!).

Re things to do, all the hotels have different entertainment / attractions / rides / clubs / bars / restaurants and shows. You can easily fill a week just going around the hotels. If you like theme park rides you will have to do the rides at the top of the Stratosphere - hideous!!!!! LOADS of good restaurants if that's your thing. We also did a helicopter trip to the Grand Canyon and flew all over it, hired a car on another occasion and drove to the glass walk-way over the grand canyon, did a trip to Death Valley - there's loads of stuff like that if you want to get away from the strip!

Hope that helps a bit! Vegas is great for a change from Florida!

We,ve been to Las Vegas twice, the last time was in November last year. This time we booked flight and hotel on the web with lastminute.com. We stayed 11 nights. Worked out at £800 ish each. Stayed at Planet Hollywood. Great location!! You could walk easily to most places in each direction really central. Last time we stayed at the Sahara which offers great deals if you book direct - about $30 per night we saw! but it's a bit out of the way from the main strip. There's loads to do not just gambling. We did a lot of walking, shows, meals, rides, CSI experience is fun, night clubs, bars, comedy, music venues- I could go on.

Good luck convincing your friends, it would be a really fun trip.

Cannot really help, but we are going for the first time in July.
Sill have no hotel paid, but opinion seems to be to wait till June ,or even just before we go to Vegas, and seems to be about right. Most hotels do not have deals out for July yet, them seem to bring different ones out for about a 4 week spell, and those that have deals that run till the end of the year keep bringing out better deals every lot of weeks, and i have been watching for about 6 months now.
We are meeting our cousins in Vegas , they are coming from Palm Springs , and they say wait.
Checking some websites, there are great deals for our trip, now The Wynn £68.50 a night , and this is for a wed through to Sunday, also Aria £334 for the 4 nights, starting prices for both these resorts where about £800 wheni started looking.
Check when you are going ,and make sure there is no big conventions on as this can make a difference to rates.

Vegas is AMAZING

Have you tried looking at hotels on Expedia? You might be surprised at the high quality of hotels that you can get for not as much £ as you expect; I believe that the hotels aim is to get people into the hotel with the hope that they'll spend the majority of their cash in the casino!

I visited as part of a road trip across the states, and we only stayed for 3 nights so we didn't spend a lot of time chilling out (apart from one afternoon by the pool - it was August though so heat was intense!) and tried to see as much as possible.. 10 days should give you enough time to see what you want and to also relax; as long as you don't blow all your money on day one !

A good tip is to get to know your hotel concierge. They know 'people' at most of the clubs on the strip, and generally know whats happening where and when - best places to go, best shows to see, etc etc. They were a great help to us.

Overall it's a lot of fun; from vodka jello shots by the pool, to helicopter rides over the grand canyon, there's loads to do. Good luck planning!

I loooooove Las Vegas.

Imperial Palace and Luxor sound like good options for you guys, as I konw they have some amazing deals. Just do me a favour and don't be lured in by the cheap cheap prices of Circus Circus, we visited it for a couple of hours and it's like hell on earth, and it's not actually on the main part of the strip!

We stayed at Treasure Island and had the most amaing room at the top of the building with a view of the entire strip, it was really breathtaking - booked it through Expedia and got a good deal.

I think the Flamingo has good cheap rates sometimes, and is very central, and I also know that Bill's Gamblin' Hall, which is tiny, but snuggled in right by the MGM gets really good reviews and has great rates.

Next time we go I would stay at either the Venetian or Caesars.

We've done Vegas 4 times now and would jump at the option to go back again. Doing Vegas on the cheap is not easy, but certainly not imposible. The costs of the hotel is relatively cheap. Hotels like The Flamingo, Excalibur, Tropicana offer great rates, but for just a little bit more you could be stay at The Luxor, TI or my favourite NewYork NewYork. If you really are on a budget and want a bit of fun thrown in have a look at The Hooters Hotel and Casino, its round the corner from MGM Grand, a 2 minute walk to the strip and its rates are jaw droppingly cheap. Try expedia, travelzoo, hotels.com to get some ideas of prices.

Flights are the most expensive thing to book, if you want to fly direct, BA and Virgin are your only real options, but it does work out cheaper to fly indirect, for example, flt to LA and catch a Internal to Vegas, they fly every hour and it takes about 50 mins, the last time we done this the internal flight cost $49.

You will have no shortage of what to do either, lots of fantastic shows, concerts of some top artists, big time sporting events, shopping, Thrill rides and Roller coasters, some fantastic resturants and bars, 24 hour gambling, take a helicopter tour to hoover dam and the Grand Canyon. Whatever you want to do, Vegas will deliver it better than you have experienced before. Have a look at Vegas.com and check out there event calender to get an idea of what goes on.

Hope you manage to convince them all, you will have an amazing time.

Hi there,

A few tips I stayed in Vegas for a month, not an easy thing to do, as we had to work also during the weeks. Here are a few tips.

Use the monorail to get around if you want to get from the top to the the bottom of the strip. It's the easy way instead of walking all that way in the sun.

Use an american travel agent like Orbitz, think of staying near the strip as on the strip can get expensive, although I was quoted 695 dollars for uk flights and a 9 day stay at the Treasure Island.

Check out the Hoover dam it's well worth the short trip.

Ticketmaster is on the strip near the M&M shop next to MGM, unsold tickets for that evenings shows go on sale their at great prices on the afternoon of the show.

Do try the cheaper casinos like the Palace Station if you want to try betting with each chip beinga buck instead of the minimum 5 bucks.

Eat at the buffet meals, fantastic value in most large hotels at $20 each, you can hardly walk afterwards.

If you want to get around the bus system is fine, the 310 takes you the length of the strip.

Visit the voodoo lounge at the RIO, they have a drink which is served in a skull and I don't remember much after that. The view from there is fantastic.

Hey guys cheers for some of the tips...

By the sounds of things im guessing the hoover damm is one of those things we have to do and the grand canyon.

Ive been reading alot of reviews and the place sounds amazing, we ended up paying £700 on 18-30 for a week in Greece last year so I dont think this should be too out of our price range.

Just got look through all the hotels you guys have advised now and see what I can come up with!

Some great tips in here! Me and DBF are hoping to have 4 or 5 nights in Vegas next year when we go to California, so so good reading this! I like the sound of the drink in the Rio

Vegas is my second fav place and I can't get enough of it.

Last year we flew into Long beach airport (we were in Washington first) and then drove to Vegas, we have also driven from LA, if the price is considerably less sometimes it's worth flying into LA and getting an internal flight with companies like jetblue or even drive.
Best bet is to keep an eye out for deals with Virgin etc.

We have stayed at quite a few places on the strip and even booked with hotwire a few times, best place to stay in my opinion is around Flamingo area. Harrahs has a great location and usually pretty good prices, last year I think we paid 30 pounds a night and booked via moneysupermarket.

I would sign up on the hotel web sites and they will send you emails with special offers.

Have a drink at the Mix lounge at the top of THE Hotel at the manderlay bay- the elevator ride alone is worth it and the view is to die for. The best Loo with a view you will ever find!!

There is a fab thread on martin lewis' money saving site on vegas. The first post in the thread contains links to money saving offers and info on staying in vegas. They post some great bargains on the thread, can't wait til I can go back again.
