Larry’s Wonderful World Trip Report Day 8

Dear Friend,

You know one of the pleasures that I have started to really look forward to in the last day or two is my morning walk, I have been getting up at six something for the whole trip and I have taken to walking around the Resort, I get the place to myself, and it is peaceful and quiet. Occasionally you get to say hi to someone wonderful, and it is great start to the day, and gets you ahead on the calorie front as well. This morning I didn’t have a lot of time, because we decided upon early entry at the Magic Kingdom. Gregory decided to stay in bed, so we arranged to meet him at the MK at 10am.

We went and toasted a Low Carb Bagel for me and regular stuff for Ed and Jill, and went to the bus line for the MK at around twenty to eight. The line was massive stretching back about 100 meters, 110 Yards if Meters are a bit too exotic for your tastes. I thought that it would take three or four busses to clear it, so I decided to brave the TTC in the car. I got a bit lost in the roads around these parts (I know my way from the All Stars Everywhere, but I just seem to get flummoxed here at Pop.) Anyway we made it to the TTC by ten to eight so we were doing quite well.

When we walked through the Transport and Ticket Centre, we had to show our pass to the Cast Member on the gate, as it was early entry and it made me think of our first visit to WDW in 1998. I didn’t write a Trip Report that visit so you may not know about our first ever day in the Magic Kingdom, and Golly Gosh did it turn out to be a Magical one for us……

Imagine a wavy effect over the scene as we glide effortlessly into to flashback mode.

June the 25th 1998, our first trip to Walt Disney world and we have arrived from Manchester on Virgin the day before, tired and unbowed, we had spent the evening with our Friends Kevin and Joanne at the ESPN club, I had not seen Kevin an old friend from school for 10 years or so, so it was really nice to spend some time with him again. We agreed to meet outside the Timekeeper at 11 am the next day. But we wanted to get to the park before that, we didn’t know about early entry, so we arrived at the TTA by car, and took the tram, when we got to the gate, they would not let us through, for an whole hour, but we had to watch the rest of the world get through, asking the Cast Member on the gate about this she explained Early Entry to us, and we were determined never to have this happen to us again, we needed to be “on world”, and not at the Rodeway Inn International Drive. Anyway were eventually let through and we came across the lagoon on the big ferryboat, our excitement rising we entered the Magic Kingdom for the first time, and lapped up the atmosphere on Main Street USA, there is nothing to compare with this in Britain, and we were so excited. Kevin had told us about Squeeze Breezes so we stopped to buy one of those, and boy was it hot, so we were grateful for it pretty soon. We wandered up to the hub and then walked through Adventureland and headed towards Splash Mountain. As we were in the queue to Splash, Jill was approached by a Suit who said, would she and her family like to do something special, so naturally she said yes. We were taken out of the queue and to the exit of Splash and we were taken to the unloading area, and we were told nothing of what was to happen, then Brer Bear and Brer Fox, came out and got into a boat, then we were shown into the boat, and our first ever ride on an attraction on our first ever day in WDW was with the characters. After the ride was over we were given the photograph of us riding with the animals and a Magical Moment Certificate. A fantastic introduction to the Wonderful World of Disney.

Imagine wavy transition again……….

Well today, we walked through the gate, showing our hotel pass and we left the day guests behind us, I hope some of them who were spending their first ever day at the Magic Kingdom experience a similar day to our first.

It was decidedly chilly all morning and I regretted being in a T-shirts as my arms were getting goose-bumps. We were about fifteen minutes late for EE because we got onto a monorail which was newly in service and had to have its daily safety checks. Well at least I knew the phone in my cabin worked should we get stuck or someone get the lurgies or something.

We went first for some fastpasses for Space, and then we did, now don’t be too shocked, It’s a Small World. Then we did the “Dash for Splash” at the regular park opening time of nine, following a decidedly giddy Haunted Mansion Lady. I think it was the daylight or something which perked her up. Then we did Splash, and as it was freezing, I was grateful not to get wet at all, partly because at the end where the waterfall is on the right, I almost sat on Ed’s Knee to keep out of the stream. (Ed is back to full fitness, you will be pleased to hear.)

We then went and did Pirates of the Caribbean, There was a bit of a line, and the young chap in front of us, about six or something, found four dollars on the floor, which some other guest must have dropped, and me and his dad were telling him he had found Pirate’s Treasure. I enjoyed the ride, extra specially to day because of the Pirates in the Park, extra feature of the Pirates of the Caribbean, DVD. Which I had watched a couple of days before coming to Florida.

We then went to meet Greg, who had been delayed by the massive crowd waiting for a bus at Pop. The Magic Kingdom was really busy today, probably the worst day I have seen outside of Christmas or July 4th. Ed and I went and did TTA, and I day dreamed for most of the way around the ride. Especially in the dark bits.

We met up with Jill and Greg and did Space Mountain, Greg getting Jill’s fastpass. I bagged the front seat at 8-20am, so I made sure I got it, it was a fun ride, much more fun in the front seat, which I haven’t had a go in for years.

We then went for lunch and had a fairly unhealthy attack of the fixings bar at Cosmic Ray’s. Then we retired to the room to get a Jumper, because it was freezing all morning.

After a short stop at the room, to catch up on email etc, We drove to Animal Kingdom, We went for a walk in Asia and did the Tiger Trail. Then we went to see Tarzan Rocks, boy does that guy have a decent chest or what? What I would give for one like that, now I can diet and exercise as much as I like but I ain’t going to get a Tarzan-esk Chest that is for sure. The show was fun, we managed to go late and sneak decent seats. Next to the “runway” where the performers go up and down during the show. It was a good performance, the costumes seem to have been changed since I last went and the show was great, It is my favourite show at WDW.

We came out of the Theatre in the Wild, and went down to the place where the former annual passholders viewing area was and watched the parade, I quite enjoyed this little parade, and there was Roger Rabbit, I don’t think I have ever seen him in the parks before. It is funny how some characters don’t figure highly in the parks even though the films did quite well. Though I have noticed more of a diversity this time than any other. (You know when I went to college and university, it never ever occurred to me that by the time I was 44 I would be writing about Disney Characters and posting it for you and the world to see!! – I always thought I would be Chancellor of the Exchequer or something, I should have worked harder at my studies!)

After that we did the Safari and it was fun, we had a good tour guide and we were in the front row, which was a first for me. And we saw lots of animals, I think they are quite perky at around 4-30pm. From after the ride to park closing we went to conservation station, mainly because I wanted to ride the train. (Well I did live in a train station for 10 years.) When I was there, I had a moment of quite, sat on a bench in the petting area when three goats came up to me to say hi. I think the cast member was impressed how much they took to me. Hey I always knew I was good with Kids!!! (Sorry, I’ve been writing this for a week now and I’m running out of the good jokes.)

After park closing we went over to MGM for Fantasmic. Now I am pleased to inform you that I have not parked in a DVC resort or parking area today, I sneaked into the cast member parking area instead, just for a change!!!

Fantasmic was great. I haven’t seen it for a while and it was as good as I remembered.

Well That is about it for tonight, we ate in the Pop Century Food Court, a healthy Salmon and Rice for me, and did a bit of business at Guest Services. And that as they say was that.

Thanks for reading and I shall see you nice and early tomorrow.

Cheers Larry your Pal in Scotland.
