Larry’s Wonderful World Trip Report Day 12

Dear Friend,

Well the weekend is over and it is back to the hard graft of Walt Disney World In Easter Week, they don’t quite go so mad at Easter as they do for the “Holidays”. I did however notice a Easter Bonnet thingy on the front of the horse drawn tram on Main Street USA in the Magic Kingdom this morning. Anyway I’m glad you didn’t give up reading trip reports for lent.

But first things first, I managed to get up at Six Thirty, (which is mighty impressive seeing we are only on day two of Central Florida Summer Saving Tariff Time.) So I went to the food court for a cup of coffee and hung around the building for a little while which was actually very nice. And then I had a bit of a walk, just to get me nice and wide awake.

Well after ablutions we were ready to embark on day twelve of our epic adventure. So today was the last full day with Tom, Leanne, Kim and Chris, so we were keen to spend as much time with them as we could. Despite my early start we were running a bit late, and we were meeting the gang in the Magic Kingdom, which we thought opened at nine, but it turned out to be eight, woops.

So we were faced with a big line at the bus stop or the dreaded Transport and Ticket Centre. We picked the TTC. We drove there OK, not getting lost today, and we got parked quite a way from the TTC in Pluto 21, but there were a lot of cars arriving at the same time, so the huddle for the tram was pretty big, so we decided to walk to the TTC, actually it wasn’t so hot so we walked what would have been about half a mile to the TTC getting there at about the same time that the tram we would have caught got there so that was good, 75 calories in credit there then.

We hopped on the resort monorail, good tip that if you arrive at the TTC when it is mobbed, like at eight fifty on the Monday of Easter Week, get the resort monorail, not only will you probably get there quicker you will get a seat to rest your weary bottom.

We met up with the Burroughs slightly late, (sorry) and we found a busy park, we got some fastpasses for Buzz, everyone except Tom, Leanne and I braved a lengthy queue for Space Mountain, Tom and I did Tommorrowland Transit Authority, (TTA or People Mover to many.) and chatted about golf and the two hole in ones he has got. Then Tom went to find Leanne who had done Winnie the Pooh, in Fantasyland. I went for a little walk as I am rapidly becoming accustomed to doing. This one was a little more ambitious than my circuit around the Land, I walked on the unused path from Space to Toontown, and got the train, (choo choo) to Main Street Station and walked back up Main Street USA to the hub and over the bridge back to Tommorrowland. I quite enjoyed this, I am finding that I am enjoying wandering around with a spot of brisk walking, more enjoyable than standing in line for even the better attractions like Space.

We met up together and did Buzz as a group, I rode with Greg who showed me where a 100,000 target is, yippee. And it is easy to remember as well, if you would like to know where it is you just have to ask nicely and I will show you it when we ride Buzz together in the future.

After Buzz or maybe before, we did Carousel of Progress, which was a nice rest after all the walking this morning I wasn’t paying much attention to the storyline, I was just thinking pleasant thoughts about things and just waking up, to sing the song every time the carousel moved, but I did enjoy the tape of Walt singing the song with the Sherman Brothers on the pre-show TV by the entrance to the attraction. Anyway it is a very pleasant place for my morning think.

Greg and I were thinking that the un-built buildings of the other half of Pop Century, could be based on the Carousel of Progress, the 00’s and the 10’s could have no TV, gas lamps and diphtheria spores, piped in. The 20’s could have dodgy electrics and with Short Outs every three hours, and the 40’s could have the luxury of black and white TVs with lines and interference. Gosh they could charge extra and call it the “History Experience” or something. Just a thought. Mind you I’m in the 70s and I refuse to wear flares.

Well that was it for Tommorrowland for Today. Some went to the loos, and some listened to the High School Band in the band pavilion, who actually unlike most of the High School Entertainment I have sampled this week were not actually very good, still, I guess they had fun and at the end of the day, that is why we are all here.

We moseyed over to Splash mountain and got a fastpass, then most of the gang except for Ed and I, did Pirates. During this little break, I decided against a walk, and we went to the Dole Whip stand and got ourselves a couple of “Pineapple Spears” (ie. A quarter of a pineapple –You can actually find healthy snack food if you look at WDW. I shall try to point it out when I come across it.) One thing I did notice and we were getting towards 11am, was that the place was becoming mobbed, you know it is bad when there is a 20 minute line for the Tree House!!, and there was.)

We met up with the pirates (yo ho!) and went to Splash, and we used the old fastpasses, they joined us with the dummy line earlier than usual and we had a bit of a wait, but it wasn’t too bad, I enjoyed floating around, I wasn’t following the story much but sang along to the songs, and found the hidden Mickey Tom told us about.

When we came off we decided that it was lunch. The park was heaving by now, we tried Columbia Harbour House for lunch but there was a line to get into the building which is getting a tiny bit silly. And as an experienced Disney Crew, we are not silly, so we left the park, and got the resort boat to The Grand Flo (Resort and Spa – Don’t forget the Resort and Spa bit it annoys them.) And we had a very pleasant lunch on the patio by the boat dock, outside Gaspa-Gorrilla Grill, which had no lines at all to get into the building and provided fruit cups as an alternative to fries with my burger.

Afterwards, we split up, Jill and the Boys went boating at the Contemp, and I picked up the car from Pluto 21 at the TTC and drove it back to the hotel. I then went on line and did an email and looked at some photographs, which was very relaxing and I fell asleep. I was woken by the news on the phone that Ed had been hit by a nasty wake, and had gotten soaked to the skin and I was to bring him some new clothes to MGM.

So I woke myself up and got the bus over to MGM, where we met up at the tip board with the full gang. We got Ed changed, and went to do Millionaire. We were hopeless in this show, and I don’t remember too much about the contestants. We then did the back lot tour. Boy what a big disappointment this now is. The water thingy at the start is the same, but the tram tour is terrible, you hardly go anywhere, the route is lined with nothing but total rotting junk. Seriously it is the same rubbish that has been there for years, only it has all rotted away. They need to find some new stuff for you to look at. And to add insult to injury, the petrol tanker didn’t even burst into flames in Catastrophe Canyon. So the water wasn’t actually putting anything much out. But there was a lot of water, you cant argue with that.

Well we then did the most enjoyable Millionaire I have ever been to, there was this wee laddie from Scotland aged 10, in the Hot Seat and he struggled his way to 1000, and made the hat and pins, with a lot of help from the host and the crowd went wild when he got to 1000, he got a standing ovation. It was fun, to watch. Then an adult got into the hot seat and did OK but when it was all over I was top of the leader board, proving yesterday wasn’t a fluke. Normally I would be annoyed at being the top of the board, when the show is over, but as I am banned for 30 days anyway, No Worries.

We went for something to eat at the Backlot Express, mourned the passing of the great fixing bar there, and munched on my Turkey and Pepper Sandwich. Then we decided to come home, as we didn’t want to fight the Fantasmic Crowd for the busses because we would loose.

Well then it has been an early night of TR writing, I will no doubt go on the Internet later, to say hi to anyone around, and off up the wooden stairs shortly after.

See you tomorrow, pleasant dreams.

Cheers Larry,
Your Pal in Scotland.

Great report, Larry.
Are you going to post your pics so we can see?

Great report! See you tomorrow, how the crowds are down a bit.

I am still trying to adjust to the time change, glad to see you are doing better.
