Towards the 2nd half of the show, Larry interviewed the parents of a MIA. The father at the end asked if he could add something.

He had received a call this morning saying that the status of his son and the 7 others was being changed from "MIA" to "Whereabouts unknown". The dad said this would effect the benefits and the wife of the soldier is due to give birth May 4.


This is NOT right. The dad also said he had also already called his Congrerssman. It is not like the soldier decided to take a vacation there in Iraq!!!

Surely that can't be true. I can't believe the US military would actually <b>do</b> that I hope his congressman can do something to help this missing soldier's family.

I hope they reverse it for all 8 of the MIA!! I hope someone else can watch Larry King tonight (it is on later around 11:00pm CST) to make sure that I heard this correctly.

Jamsmom, you are correct. I just went to CNN.com and read the transcript from last night's LKL. The father of a missing soldier stated that the Army changed his son's status to "Whereabouts Unknown" and that this will effect the benefits of his family (what "effect" he didn't say). He has contacted his Senator and is looking into it.

I sincerely hope this is an error and that it will be corrected quickly.

There has been some kind of disconnnect here. Those spouses and families will be eligible for all benefits.

Thanks Olaf, I was just about to post this. As far as I know, there is no change in benefits based on this type of status change.
