Hi everyone, I hope this is ok to post here. We are thinking of doing a day at universal while in Orlando. I'm a larger gal 375 and wondering if I'll have a problem with any of the rides there? any to avoid? really don't want to be embarrassed in front of my family. I only ask b/c we have kings island in Cincinnati and I don't fit in a lot of the rides here they aren't very accommodating. thanks so much everyone!!

There was a great post recently ---two larger women posted a video of their trying out the testing seats at the start of the rides at Universal. See if you can search for it in this forum. I think the post had the words "Pooh size" in the title. I too am larger...a sz 18, and I was uncomfortable in the Hulk and Rip Ride Rock It coaster seats. The bars would have closed with some finagling but i would have not enjoyed the ride. I was able to fit in Forbidden Journey (on the end seat) and Gringotts (back row) no problem. I didn't have an issue with any other rides in the park. One of the ladies in the video was of larger proportions than I am so maybe you will find her guidance helpful.

I was 220, size 22ish, 5'3". I was fine, though in the extended seat on FJ.

DH is 5'10"ish, around 350 or a bit more, and still cannot get on Hulk, RRR (probably never*), Mummy (probably never), FJ, Gringott's (maybe never), Dragon Challenge, and Fearfall. He rode Dudley Do-Right by waiting for the accessible log. That ride is VERY hard to get into; I think the trick for both of us was to keep legs straight and slide down, straight-legged, into it. Bend once you're sitting. I can't even remember how to get out.

*even when 250 his legs are tree trunks, and the "probably never" rides involve leg restraint issues...

Universal is not size-friendly. DH loves it enough, and loves watching DS enjoy it enough, that he is the driving force behind our visits there, but there are many things he longs to do that he cannot yet do.

But you can walk through ALL lines, the theming just about everywhere is amazing. He loves meeting characters like Storm and Rogue. And there are still many things he can ride and experience. Just not the big big thrill rides.

I wish you luck!

I have found Universal not fat friendly. And if you have a large bosom, it will prevent shoulder restraints from closing enough.

My Husband is six foot five and 280 and was able to ride everything at Universal.

The Banshee at Kings Island is a real tight fit for him but he has no problems getting on Diamondback.

This has been a worry for me, 6'2 and 250-ish. I have been working on weight loss for 3 years now and am more than 200 pounds down, but One thing I REALLY want to do is ride rollercoasters! I missed it so much being a "Big Boy" than I really want to do it now. I am "all torso" as my wife says (6'2 30" inseam!) I have had problems getting restraints over my shoulders in the past. I am planning to do an 8 (12) week low carb challenge to try and lose a few inches here and there before our planned trip in November, but I'll be tough. Disney last year only had one "tight fit" on Primeval Whirl, and i was 100 pounds heavier than i am now. But WDW rollercoasters are pretty tame, and I want to ride a few crazy ones this year!

Just back and I am around 300lbs, wear a size 26 and could get on Dragon Challenge, Dudley was easy to get into but getting out when wet was a real problem (this might have had something to do with laughing a lot as well!). Couldn't do Gringotts or Forbidden Journey, had to sit in the non motion seats for Minions. Was okay on Men in Black, Transformers, Simpsons (unfortunately as it was the ride that almost pushed me over the edge for nausea!) I didn't try Hulk this time but have done it before, same thing with Mummy. I was okay on Spiderman too.

Hope that helped!

congrats to guittech and the others on the weight loss !!

i know it is difficult but it will make you feel so much better about yourself.

i think the ones that have issues with fitting in the rides are do to the way your body is built.
there have been some past threads that have had many posts in it stating their body type and what worked and what didn't.
if you search you'll be able to pull those threads up and it might guide you in case others bypass this thread.

to lose 200 lbs over the past 3 years is amazing.
i really hope you don't have any issues in any of the rollercoaster rides.

Guittech, I'm about the same height, weight, and inseam as you. I don't want to get your hopes up too high (just in case), but I am able to ride everything at both parks. When modified seats are available, I ask for them though. I need it on Hulk and Forbidden Journey. You may or may not need the modified seats, especially if you continue to lose more weight. I'm confident that you will be good to go. Well, except for The Hulk, since it will be down for renovation when you are there in November >.<

Well, since I was nearly a foot, and just 30 pounds, smaller than you, and I could fit... You might be fine. I'm not ALL torso, and of course I'm less torso than you LOL, but when my 5'11" stepmom and I were next to each other, her standing and me sitting on a wall, our waists were at the same spot and we were the same height at that moment. She does have a lot of leg, but I think it means something for me, too. :)

That's an amazing weight loss, and my husband owuld be supremely jealous of you. He travels for work AND has a pituitary tumor, so trying to work Weight Watchers while dining out half the year, along with the hormones that area created by the tumor, has been nearly impossible. Lots of congratulations to you.

I know DH is expecting to ride the ones with the shoulder restraints when he hits 250. It's just going to be the leg restraint ones that will give him problems. (and he too has a long torso, and even when 250 before he was built solidly around the chest and back)

NO guarantees, of course, but fingers crossed for you!

Oh and wear *soft* clothes. Don't bind yourself up. If you bind yourself, the ride might need to bind you in a place that won't move, and it might end up all wrong. So wear soft clothing and let the restraint smoosh where it needs to smoosh. (that goes for anyone, not just guittech)

LOL!

Thanks for the advice!

And thanks everyone for the weight loss encouragement. It's been a tough road, had a stroke a few years back, luckily for me very mild, but it finally kicked my butt into gear for weight loss. I started on Weight Watchers, but found it didn't work so well for me, mainly because my metabolism is very slow. It took me 2 years to lose the first 100. then i got onto a more physical regiment, and started walking... A LOT! I do about 20 km every day (about 12.5 miles) and keep myself around 1400 calories a day.... it's been hard lately, since i have been getting closer to my goal, I have started cheating now and then, so it's back to being more strict for a few months, and I should be good.
:D

I will post a "rider update" when i get back of what worked and what didn't!
