Large Snakes at AKV?

Please tell me this is not true!!! I just read that a CM told a guest who had one crawing on him that they are pretty common for AKL. Which means AKV to me. The CM told him they are just put back into the savannah. Well guess what..I have a SV room. Snakes are my biggest fear. Has anyone else experinced that there? I have less then a month and will never sleep. I may have to try to change my Villa of choice...

Well, I would guess that since WDW is built on swamp land that there can be snakes pretty much anywhere...I don't think the snakes are discerning enough to identify AKL over SS or OKW...it's Florida..there are going to be bugs and pests everywhere...I'm sure if someone had a snake at AKL it was just bad luck...I don't think you need to worry about it. Enjoy your vacation

Saw 2 snakes last year. One at Jambo by exit near the pool it was about 9pm it was a water moccosain. The next was at Pop near the 90's pool and was a Coral snake. This time of year keep your eyes peeled!

This only makes sense, but I never thought of this. I hope I won't be doing this when DH are going to the pool late at night at AKL in a couple of weeks.

We were there at AKV- Kidani for 5 days in November and didn't see any snakes. Maybe it's because we had the parking lot/bus stop view?

Ummm... It's Florida... there are snakes everywhere not just AKL

We've stayed at AKV many times, and never saw a snake. Don't worry about having a savannah view room....I don't think these snakes would climb a building, and there are no rooms on the ground floor.

Maybe you should cancel your trip. But seriously, there are snakes all over WDW. In fact, a few years ago a snake slithered into the pool at the Wilderness Lodge-for real.

I have never seen a snake at AKV/AKL over the course of many visits. There must be snakes, but there isn't much open water, so I'd think they'd be less of an issue at AKL than at most of WDW property.

We've stayed at AKV multiple times and never saw a snake. We did see one at BCV on the shortcut sidewalk on the way to Epcot.
Like others have said, it's Florida, there are snakes.

Ummm... It's Florida... there are snakes everywhere not just AKL

And bugs - big ones. Some gators, including one that used to hang out by the Beach Club. Lots of birds, and due to the food issue (people feeding the cute birds) some of them are pretty aggressive. And its hot in the summer. And the humidity means that sometimes showers get a little moldy or your towels don't dry. It can rain ALOT in late summer/early fall as hurricanes hit the coast.

I've seen snakes at BCV, OKW, SSR, inside EPCOT, and inside Islands of Adventure.

The last time we saw a snake at WDW was at TTC. We were walking up the ramp to catch the monorail to Epcot and a snake was crawling right along side of us, moving along with the crowd. Not sure what kind of snake it was but it was orange in color and about 2 1/2 to 3 foot long. it went up the ramp for a while before ducking into the shrubs. No one else seemed to notice or at least didn't react to it. Maybe they thought it was animatronic.

OK was the snake on the CM or the guest. Maybe it was a pet boa constrictor that someone was displaying to a crowd?? Could you have read the story wrong. You will at least be on the second floor in your room. The SV is great...I saw no snakes.

Avoid WDW at all costs 12/21/12...not me that is exactly where I want to be when the end comes.

I had a large black snake crawl across my foot at the South Point pool at OKW last June. I was dozing in a chair waiting for some laundry to finish in the laundry room. There are snakes everywhere in Florida. And I've seen snakes on at least 3 other visits to OKW, one was swimming in the main pool late one night years ago, before the slide was built.

We've seen snakes at VWL as well. As others have previously mentioned, when you're in Florida there's always a chance of seeing snakes, as well as other critters.

We were at Typhoon Lagoon one October and saw a CM take a large black snake from the Crush & Gusher (is that the name??) area. It was late in the day and we were pretty wiped, so we decided that the snake was our excuse to go back to SSR.

We've seen little guys in the grass at OKW too. I try to watch were I'm walking when at the resorts because of all the critters.

Something to think about - this past winter has been a colder than normal winter in Florida (heck they even had snow) so I would venture to guess that the snake population as a whole has/will decrease this year.

When we lived in New Orleans, which has some of the LARGEST, NASTIEST bugs/snakes right near our houses/subdivisions (I literally lived 4 blocks from a swamp/levy system), and we had colder than average winters you would see a decrease in the bug/snake population that coming spring/summer/fall.
