Large group - Splitting checks

On our upcoming trip we have 2 families going for a total of 9 on our adr's. I just assumed that we could split the check on the meal - so each family could handle their own DDP and the 18% gratuity would be split between the two checks. But I just read on another thread that large groups are not allowed to split checks. Is that right?

Where did you read that? You can always split the check.

Some people think that splitting the check will get them out of the automatic 18% gratuity, but it won't. That will still be applied to each split check.

It was on a post over on the resort board..I didn't think it was right, but I wanted to double check as we never go with another family and have this issue.

You can definitely split the check. They'll just put 18% against each individual check.

You can split checks. To make it easier just let your server know who will be on which check before you order.
