Lapu Lapu?

I keep seeing pictures of these drinks, and they look amazing. I was just wondering what's actually in one? Thanks!

always get one when we eat at Ohana. It is a rum based drink, pineapple juice, not sure of the other ingredients, I do know however there is no coconut in it, I do not like coconut at all. The cost is around $15 but it is worth it IMO.

I can't recall that there's anything in it but pineapple juice and at least two kinds of rum.

You CAN order it without the pineapple cup and they'll charge you around $8-9. I think, though, that mostly they get ordered because of the novelty about drinking it out of a pineapple.

Love the Lapu Lapu. Thanks for the tip on the less expensive version without the pineapple. It is fun to drink from a whole pineapple, but maybe not $6 worth(I'd rather have an additonal drink)

It tasted to me like they took the fruit out, leaving a little juice behind, and just filled the whole thing with rum and ice. They are STRONG!!

so according to that recipe it is not pineapple juice at all - it's orange juice and sour mix.

That Lapu Lapu recipe doesn't sound right to me. I checked my copy of "Cooking With Mickey Around Our World" cookbook and found this....

2 1/2 chilled orange juice

2 1/2 chilled pineapple juice

2/3 cup chilled apricot nectar

2 1/2 cups chilled sour mix

1/2 cup simple syrup, cold

This makes 12 5oz servings


Copyright on this book is 1986, so I suppose it could have changed. I do think there is definitely some pineapple juice in the current Lapu Lapu.

If you are up for more than one the bartender told me that if you keep the pineapple and get a refill it's cheaper. Just a tip if your daring enough for 2!

Same here. Had to try one after hearing about it on these boards. It was awful. Pure alcohol...not enjoyable at all. My kids named it the "Loopy Loopy" ....because that was how I was acting after a few sips!
